Sorry for the short post,
At the moment it is to short for anything other than a three car Class 170. I was wondering if they could do something with it.

Hasn’t it already been extended slightly - presumably for a 4-car EMU?
It has to be in the open air as long as it is used by diesel trains.

No. It has been looked at, twice. It can’t be extended towards London as the junctions are all in the way. It can’t be extended into the station, as one of the main support pillars for the terminal building is directly behind the bufferstops.

What are the options for Stansted?
Any room for another platform on the other side of 1 or opposite 3?
Could extend all platforms if you (expensively) move the retaining wall back opposite platform 1 and move the junctions west.
Is there actually provision to extend the line through the station? Would the hassle of clearing the train mean holding sidings to the East wouldn’t be worth it?
Obviously my crayons want a new runway over there rather than at Heathrow and a quadrupling of the Lea Valley leading into a fast new line through the airport and onto Cambridge.....

How many "fast shuttles" would be needed to transfer the entire contents of a 12 car train to the terminal?

Here's an idea for a one way 'balloon loop' configuration that would remove all the arrival movements of the Stansted Express from the single track tunnel. I understand the airport station was planned with access from the other end in mind.

It was extended back in 2012 and now takes a 4 car 170. 1545 arrival and 1625 departure on Sundays have been booked a four car 170 for the last 5 years or so.

And that required a whole load of derogations from standards to achieve.

I thought that was the Cross Country Platform only and no other operator uses it.

Can be used by any train short enough!

So can this mean that if Greater Anglia put all 755’s in P2 can Cross Country send Voyagers into the other platforms.

No because only Platforms 1/3 are restricted to EMUs only and as a result only Platform 2 can be used for DMUs.
