Stansted Express-currently crawling

Hey all, currently sitting on the StanEx (18:39 off Bishops Stortford) been crawling since Broxbourne, intercom announced we were stuck behind a stopper. Anyone know which one and why?

Looks to be the 17.53 stopper from Cambridge being a couple of minutes down, which seems to be having some kind of headway knock-on or whatever to your service. (Your train isn't actually booked to overtake this one though, so I'm not sure what's going on.)

think there are some kids running back and forth over the lines hence the caution... obviously the fatality the other day hasn't sunk in yet...

Thanks mate, I assumed this was the case, mind you I couldn't think where we could overtake as we only started crawling at Broxbourne, and after that is it all two tracks until hackney downs?

Rather then call the service the Stansted Express why not either remove the branding and leave it with generic branding of the operator like the services to Cambridge, Norwich, Southend etc have?

There's no special branding on these services or rename the slower services Stansted Connect maybe?

Eh? From the south, there's only the four "Express" services- all call at Tottenham Hale, two call also at Bishops Stortford, one at Harlow Town and one at Harlow Town and Stansted Mountfichet. The slow services (inclduing Statford) terminate at Bishops Stortford.

Unless you're saying that all the services are that damn slow that they don't deserve the "Express" name?

The service my train returned on and the one before also called at Northumberland Park, not a very non-stop express, however i think it's a much better use of stock and capacity than the Gatwick express, and I think it's fast enough to still be express service of sorts

For one, you don't need a special ticket to use it. I believe the trick there is charging a higher fare to Stansted, when it's cheaper to pay to the next stop and stop short - something most tourists wouldn't dare try.

Look at Gatwick Express it now longer exists as it's just a express service provided by Southern - the same could apply to the Stansted Express.

Ah, didn't realise spurs were playing. I know they were different situations to start with, but it seems that the Gatwick express could follow and stop just once or twice. The StanEx is handy for getting to Stortford quickly.
