I've been on the emailing list for this blog

http://southpelawjunction.co.uk/wp/

for a while now. Fascinating, and always updated.

Their latest posting, http://southpelawjunction.co.uk/wp/?p=6693 is really kind of interesting as it describes a potential passenger reopening for the line back in 1980, with a showcase trip for interested parties.
Obviously it never happened and never would really but I thought this is a fine example of lip service.
Did this happen anywhere else?

Can't say about that period but there was one on the Fawley branch very recently - though that stands a slightly higher chance of reopening.

IIRC the royal train went up there with prince Charles on board and it was implied that it may be reopened to passengers but of course it was never going to happen. They've been talking about reopening the Blyth & Tyne for about 40 years now.
