The hourly Plymouth-Edinburgh service usually calls at Leeds. How late does it have to be, before the decision is taken to divert it, either via Doncaster or via the S&K (Pontefract Baghill) to make up time?
I notice that 1V60 (Southbound) today was routed via Doncaster, after being delayed by the failed freight train just south of Darlington. It left York 47 mins late, and was "only" 26 mins late when it rejoined its booked route at Swinton.

Bear in mind that quite often there’ll be a crew change at Leeds to a crew from the Waverley, who don’t sign beyond Leeds (so they can’t, say, pass to Sheffield to pick it up there). Not insurmountable, but it’s a factor.

Initial announcement on board 1V60 was that the train would run non stop from York to Sheffield.

The Doncaster call was subsequently advised, with acknowledgement that there were passengers for there on 1V60 who should have been on 1V89 (leaving Newcastle a few minutes prior). That was cancelled due to the failed freight train.
