The E400s - the 'classic' ones at least - usually used on the X34 etc are Scania N230UDs which seem better suited to such high-speed runs compared to the ADL/Cummins equivalent, but fuel/running costs and manufacturer/spare parts support have obviously favoured the latter for a good few years now.The Stagecoach X34 sees some long high speed blasts with E400s too. Does it have similar struggles?
Plus, and not to go off-topic, didn't Stagecoach as a whole have something of a falling out with Scania with respect to the latter point in the last few years? Not as spectacular as their falling out with MAN in the late 2000s, but I do remember reading/hearing about it, which may have something to do with the significantly smaller intake of Scania products in the last 5-6 years compared to a decade or so ago.

Indeed, but as you say, the Cummins lump in the integral ADLs isn't entirely suited to high-speed motorway runs without the correct maintenance regimen in place to mitigate any problems that would inevitably arise. The Scania equivalents aren't perfect of course, but they'd be far better suited to the likes of the Cumbernauld expresses in my personal view (doesn't count for much I know, but still).Savings to be had when buying an intergral bus from ADL
