Wonder if they will run a full service tomorrow?
Other areas have had to suspend services due to the bad weather.

Chorley wasn't too bad, mind you, you have to consider our low PVR on a Sunday, Our inspector did well, he was doing some swapping and changing of buses in order to keep things smooth, and not much mileage seemed to be lost..
And not wanting to brag, i was on time (within about 5 mins or so) all day today, thanks to the new Scanias, without going to far into it, the traction control worked wonders on them, and at one point, i was stuck behind cars wheel spinning at the bottom, i managed to overtake them and surprised myself when i looked at the speedo to see i was doing 30+ up the hill on a snow covered road, and near the top of Horwich hill was the same, nice of one driver to move over for me, although i dont think he planned to.. As i went further on i passed a gritter and on my return, found the road pretty clear.. although as i was finishing, there seemed to be a lot of black ice appearing, especially around the roundabouts, we'll see whats what when I'm back mid morning tomorrow.

There currently about 3" of snow in Carnforth & Milnthorpe area.
I very much doubt it, did you not know at the first sign of snow all bus services get cancelled, so us drivers can drink tea all day.

According to another forum, First Manchester decided to have a massive cull of services today, citing weather problems.

Its on there website that they have suspended services in ashton and oldham and running limited services in other parts of north manchester.
I used to live in oldham and it can get really bad when it starts to snow. I was on a bus and it couldn`t get up the hill as it was very slippy.

It all depends how much it puts down tonight I suppose. Getting up a slippery Hala hill would be interesting lol.
As long as the Council do their job and grit the the roads (and not just the main ones) it should be fine....

True enough, but the biggest problem is the motorists who don't know how to handle the snow.. i could rant and rave all night about those people, how they don't seem to understand that they need to drive at a safe and reasonable speed, ie not doing <10mph, in order to get the grit to work and clear the snow, if they skid not to put the brakes on as it makes it worse, not to slow down to 15mph in a 40 zone despite the fact that you can see the tarmac on the road, and its obvious the roads are gritted, just because they might skid..
I suppose its inexperience with a lot of drivers, and not everyone has the same nifty driving features as i was mentioning earlier.. but the least some people can do is if they see they have caused a queue of traffic behind them is pull over, let those behind get on and resume their journey a min or so later, and then the upshot of that is, the traffic in front clears the road for you, and if anyone slips and falls off, you know where to be careful...
Simple things like that can often make the difference between huge tailbacks and minor delays..

Its not just Hala Hill, thats going to effect me this morning. Its also Barmoral Road & Coke Road, where trying to squeeze pass parked cars with-out hitting them is hard enough, with-out sliding on the ice.

I spoke too soon yesterday about the snow. There is now about 4"
I've been walking around Catterall this morning taking photo's and no sign of any buses on their usual routes. All 40/41 seem to be using the A6 because of problems at Bowgreave. This is the heaviest snowfall in this area for a good few years - ever since we couldn't get up to Calder Vale with the school bus for over a week [late 80's if I remember correctly]

Tridents and a few MANS on the 2/2a this afternoon. Snow seems to have had little effect on the 2/2a but I don't know about any others.
Had a very 'spirited' ride down to Garstang last Thursday. There and back on 16662. Positively flying we were! Odd 'altercation' with a lorry on the way. Whether he'd stopped suddenly or something I didn't see at the time (looking at the countryside - as you do.) Next thing I know we're swerving across the road to go past. Driver gave him a little 'pip' as we went by. About five minutes further on the lorry comes charging past us! Before pulling into one of those pull in side roads/laybys a little further on.

would be easier having it all back at LL. i can see the logic in the north section being done by CE, but its easier to have it all together!
plus, CE will have a few Volvo Olys to get prepared for service in the new year, whilst still operating the Leylands they still have! (5 from Preston to replace the 5 J-HFR Leylands).

There's been few minor disruptions to the services today due to the weather.
A notice on the Bus station reads that services 3, 4, & 5 will not be serving Heysham Village, and Services 5, 55, & 55A will be terminating at Haws Hill in Carnforth.
Service 42 suspended, following a bus getting stuck in the snow in the Blackpool area this morning. (i heard that driver returned to Lancaster over 6-hours late!) Can somebody please confirm, if this is true or not.
13.40 Morecambe to Preston was cancelled, due to bus which was diagramed to work it arriving in Lancaster from Preston enroute to Morecambe at 13.57!!!
17.25 556 Lancaster - Ambleside was Cancelled
18.20 555 Lancaster - Kendal was also Cancelled

the tones of 14232 were nice to hear roaring through Maryport today... Since CE took over the 300, i would guess it's been 7/8 years since a proper 'limpy did this run!

The 2a was diverted through Greaves at about 12 this evening cutting out Bowerham and Hala. The snow has been falling heavily for about 3 hours and so far reached about 4/5 inches in places. The morning should be interesting...
