Penrith bus station is probably the best one on Cumbria

Workington is surely the best in terms of structure, although it’s another one where buses can get blocked in by other buses due to the stands being too close together

It is a county with slim pickings when it comes to bus stations though, Carlisle is pretty poor

Will be interesting to see what the overall bus strategy is going forward with the new Cumbrian combined authority. I'd hope to see a new bus station for Carlisle or at least a major renovation of the current one and the continuation of the generally quite good bus and rail integration in areas where buses serve major rail heads.

Cumbrian combined authority? I thought that last year Cumbria had been split into Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness! From what I have seen the latter appear to have been more proactive with improving bus services than the former.

There was.
Woofs of Sedbergh used to run 4 inbound to Kendal and 5 outbound. This was cut back to two round trips by Summer 2013.
Stagecoach ran 4 times per day Kendal to Kirkby Stephen. Kirkby Lonsdale took it over by summer 2010.

I used the Woofs service to get from Kendal to walk in the Sedbergh area. Only managed the ride from Kirkby Stephen to Kendal once.

Ah, makes sense, thanks. I haven't lived in Kendal long, last time in the area was the early 1980s when there were good buses from Lancaster to Skipton, otheres from Kirby Lonsdale to Sedbergh, Sedbergh to Hawes. Depressing how most everything has vanished cross county boundaries.

Had my first trip of the year on a bus (yes, its not often I'm on a bus) on 1st June. Went to Aira Force, and as it happens the bus back was the same bus and driver 2.5 hours later (after he'd also been to Windermere and back again). Just throwing my tickets away as I'd forgotten to do so for over a week and as the tickets are numbered its interesting to see 69 tickets were sold between the two I had. More than average sold on the rest of the trip since a hen party got on at Pooley Bridge on the way back for a couple of stops so it was a very full bus for that little bit.

On the board at the stop at Aira Force (in the Penrith direction, I didn't look at the other one) it has times of the 508 but not of the 509, but there is a route map showing the 509 there.
