Stagecoach hybrid repaints

i notice that Sheffield and Newcastle have started to repaint their hybrids into corporate beachball livery. Wondered if Oxford is following suit if they still have any? Haven’t seen any in Manchester although it may happen there as they appear to be seen on any route not just designated ones.

I think the hybrid livery repaints are separate from the Lakes colours that I take it you are referring to?

I doubt they will go into corporate Stagecoach beach ball colours.

A lot of the "standard" buses at Kendal and a few at Barrow are in the green livery, even though they're not hybrids. These aren't the dedicated 555 fleet - they're different

Stagecoach have had a long tradition (>20 years) of painting various vehicles into green livery for use in the Lakes and the 555 was usually not included. Think it was based on the Southdown colours with ex Southdown VRs on the 599, various minis, and a B series National on the 79.

The Lake District green livery is a separate dedicated one specifically for that area, it is just coincidence that it is very similar to the hybrid one. Manchester seems the only area not to be changing their hybrids to corporate as the others are in the process of changing, unless anyone is aware of them following suit.

Most of the Sheffield ones the hybrid system has been removed .They are now full diesels.The hybrid systems have failed and cost a fortune to replace .

The Stagecoach hybrids haven't been a success, the batteries are supposed to last around 5 years but they haven't been doing much more than 1 or 2 years before they need replacing. Hence Oxford elected to replace most of their fleet with standard diesel buses which actually get better fuel economy.

The existing hybrids are all going to suffer from being early versions of the technology however, until there's enough of a market, it's not going to progress enough to become viable (especially with other gas/electric developments). Diesel is still progressing enough to tick the boxes that are needed for the current low emissions areas and going after buses isn't actually going to make a real difference as they're already, per passenger journey, the least polluting motorised road transport.

Maybe, but the problem is the anti-diesel rhetoric thats become popular in the last year or so. We're not far from diesel becoming untenable in city vehicles.
