There has been some suggestion E300 At Cowdenbeath could be in the cards to move to Perth with brand new buses coming into replace them.

See's a bit pointless since E300 are no longer all used on No19 and around 5 being used for other duties with darts and Axl400 popping up instead on the no19.

Where has this been suggested?

I would HOPE so.

Saying that its nice to know new branding is on the cards for the route, hopeful some of the deckers will also gain branding.

Would these be the 09 plated E300's that Fife have occasionally put out on Perth's 19 evening service from Perth - Blackford, as they also had Fife 19 branding on them...

arbroath's 47255 was on the 30 service on Tuesday and a unidentified vyking was on the 73 on Wednesday.

Also, some Angus bus services are up for renewal in May, not sure which routes though.

Cowdenbeath don't operate any journeys on Perth's 19 evening service. It is actually a PKC tendered journey they run on the 17 to Dunning and back, which is done in between the eve 56 arriving and departing Perth. I'd imagine a 19 branded bus has been used regularly over the years.

I know that Stagecoach have quite a few leather-seated coaches for Fife Express routes. As I shall be in the area this summer, partly due to the Commonwealth Games, I wonder which routes are a priority for these coaches, or do they operate the full Express network?

Are you talking about the B7R or the B13? Both have leather seats, except for route X52, I believe, which uses the 2005 B7R.

B13 should be on all Glasgow routes, and X59 on St Andrews - Edinburgh Journeys.

Thank you for your prompt response. I may want to ride both types. I had forgotten that they have 2 types of leather-seated coach but shall buy a 2014 Scotland fleetbook shortly. Do the B7Rs go to Edinburgh such as on the Edinburgh-Dundee route?

Yes B7R operate the following routes:

X54: Edinburgh - Dundee
X58: Edinburgh - Kirkcaldy
X59: Edinburgh - Glenrothes ( short runs)
X60: Edinburgh - Leven - St Andrews

X52, may have the leather seat version but I've only spotted that once in Edinburgh. X54 at the moment could have anything, just last week it had Alx300 with bench seats :p E300 have also been spotted on all five routes. Mind you Decker also have a chance of being used.

I'm still hearing a lot of issues with trying to get staff just for the day to day operations, nothing major, but unless Stagecoach has managed to get at least 20 new starts I cant see how they will manage to operate the new service no40.

27608 has been repainted (currently a reserve) with a grey stripe replacing the usual orange colouring. Unsure as to why, it may be something to do with 40/40A?

Dunfermline are using 56 plate MANs 22508 etc. These have been seen on the 7 and 55 services recently. 22580 and 22581 will transfer to Dunfermline in time for the new service starting. It perhaps looks like the 40/40A will not be covered by brand new vehicles?

I'm curious! Where do you hear of these issues?

I'm not aware of any creditable source ever suggesting that brand new vehicles would cover the 40/40A.
Most of the stuff posted on enthusiast websites has simply been wild speculation, and not actually based on any facts!

Events regarding the South Queensferry-Edinburgh corrdior took a twist today as First have announced that their service 43 is to be withdrawn with notices up in Livingston depot, which runs the service, confirming this. No date has been given for the LDO of the 43 so I'd assume there will be an overlap between the 40/40A starting and the 43 finishing.

It had always been rumoured this would be the case. In my opinion, Stagecoach would never have plans to start the 40/40A unless they knew First wanted out.

If you were Stagecoach and wanting to take over much of the better bits of FiE (without the hassle of paying First for their assets or taking on the awkward marginal stuff), what would your next step be?

A "651" could be fairly simple to run, without needing a depot in West Lothian.

If you did open a subdepot in West Lothian then a relatively frequent relatively simple service from Bathgate to Livingston (via Deans, Livingston North station, St Johns Hospital) would be one of my suggestions:

  • Short enough to get (say) a fifteen minute service with only half a dozen vehicles
  • Whilst First run a lot of services on the Bathgate - Deans - Livi corridor, it'd be really awkward for them to try to untangle them to fight back (a bit like the way that First started one simple service - the 22 - from Rotherham to Barnsley that cut through several half-hourly Stagecoach services and make it difficult for Stagecoach to fight back against without a big revision of services)
  • Running into Edinburgh would probably mean a lot of extra mileage without picking up many passengers on the A8/ A71 (given how few "local" passengers Eastern/ SMT/ First have generally had within Edinburgh) and may tread on Lothian's toes
  • No running out into the quieter rural areas like Fauldhouse

Moving in to East Lothian would mean setting up a base there (incurring costs), and there's not a lot that you really do with North Berwick/ Haddington etc that doesn't just directly replicate a First service

Moving into "Bluebird" territory would be much riskier as this looks to be more profitable, so more chance of First fighting back.

Over the past few days at arbroath depot, I noticed that over the weekend that there are few deckers stored there, I can only see 34059, 47004, 18610 and 812 and 2 beavers stabled at arbroath and few olys recently arrived according to Mbonwick's website which was updated today and with the PVR http://mbonwick.cu.cc/SCNW/Fleetcards/index.php?dir=13/

16881 and 883 are now gone and does anyone know what happened to taybus's 16884?

For unknown reasons, First have just not been able to get anything right within West Lothian. It should be a extremely good bus area, with its links to

* Edinburghs major employment and Students areas close by.
* One of the best shopping areas in Scotland which does attract a lot of visitors and workers.
* Livingston itself has a major Hospital and many industrial estate, yet its current network is so poor and old fashion you have to wonder what is going on.

Bus routes which are two hours long end to end, routes which go everywhere, which has resulted in you being able to see where the bus is heading to in 20mins times. E&M are no better, on the numerous times it has tried and failed to operate route, most are just copies of the awful routes First operated.

Thats not to say decent bus routes can not be created in the area, just look at Blue bus, Nordi travel and Passengers Travel, who have all created very successful routes, with the latter two now in the hands of First.

First has tried twice, to introduce Express services but both times failed.

* X22/X24: ( 2000)
* X1, X2, X15, ( 2002-03)

So im not sure how Stagecoach would make a go of it, in this department, but it will need a clean broad and stay as far away from any of the current routes operated by First.

I would not say Fauldhouse is a quieter route, Blue bus can still manage a full bus to the village. ;)

Moving in to East Lothian would mean setting up a base there (incurring costs), and there's not a lot that you really do with North Berwick/ Haddington etc that doesn't just directly replicate a First service

Stagecoach would never heard over to East Lothian, it would be rather pointless. Both East Lothian buses and Perryman would be able to cover the routes if First left the area. Perryman with its 253 every hour, and ELB starting a new new to Haddington.

dont know if Perryman could resource an hourly 253 and even if he could it would only pay to serve the Dunbar>Bus Station segment of the run hourly. a Hadington>Tranent>Walliford>Musselburgh ELB Run would I think be the most likely with the terminal being Tesco. Eves already run to the Fort so no need to replace that bit. If, on the other hand First end up putting East Lothian opperations up for Sale, I think SC would have a go at buying it and Il bet they would make it pay too!↲

Still with the speculation hat on: Why would stagecoach want to by East Lothian operations? Apart from two main routes, the rest of the operations are just contracts and school work. It just seems like a lot of hard work and money for very little return. On the other hand, Livingston has a wide scope for expansion.

Lothian Buses themselves extended route 15 to Haddington for a while around 2001-02. Indeed, East Lothian would probably be too unfamiliar and sparse a territory for Stagecoach to start any operations there.

Enviro 400s have arrived from Manchester (56 plates). These will be allocated to Fife depots to free up singles for Dunfermline to cover the increased vehicle requirement for the 40/40A.

What are the fleet numbers? Fife has got a few of ex Manchester E400's already, 19047, 19050, 19052 and 19057 which they have had for a while now, and are at Aberhill...

Stagecoach said:
STAGECOACH TO PROVIDE BUSES AT THE 2014 RYDER CUP

Ryder Cup Europe has appointed transport operator Stagecoach as the provider of buses to The 2014 Ryder Cup, being held at Gleneagles.

The company, Britain’s biggest bus operator, will provide a fleet of 150 double decker buses to and from Ryder Cup Park and Ride sites at Perth, Stirling and Kinross during the week of the event.

Richard Hills, Europe’s Ryder Cup Director, said: “It is a huge operation to transport in the region of 45,000 people to and from the golf course every day during the week of The 2014 Ryder Cup. Visitors to the event will be able to enjoy a comfortable and pleasurable journey from their Park and Ride base.

“We are delighted that Stagecoach, a company with its roots firmly in Scotland, will facilitate these transfers and ensure the smooth arrival and departure of the spectators at Gleneagles.”

The majority of the operation will be managed by Stagecoach East Scotland which is based in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. However, vehicles will also be provided by Stagecoach’s regional bus companies across the UK. Stagecoach also delivered a successful transport operation at The 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales.

Robert Montgomery, Managing Director of Stagecoach UK Bus, said: “It's a great honour to have been awarded the contract to operate the bus services for the Park & Ride sites for The 2014 Ryder Cup. We're delighted to be involved in such a prestigious, global sporting event which has not been held in Scotland since 1973.

“Stagecoach has wide-ranging experience of providing transport services for major sporting events including the 2012 London Olympics, the 2010 Ryder cup in Wales, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone over a number of years and many more.

“We will be calling on the significant resources of our regional companies within our UK Bus division to help ensure the success of the operation and we look forward to enhancing the experience for the spectators who play such an important role in the event.”

Good to hear Stagecoach has been chosen for such a large operation again!
