I really don't do this much - but:

Today I went to get a ticket for the Merseyrail Challenge on Saturday. Hence, I'm not disclosing the details of the ticket, but it was from A to B, route Any Permitted. There was also a cheaper 'Route C' option.

It took 4 attempts at printing the ticket, be it wrong date, wrong route, lack of railcard discount etc etc. I just wonder where some of these people are trained.

I've never had any problems at this station before, again not disclosing any info, let's just say it was a parkway in the south of Liverpool.

At least you got your ticket. I have just had a guy at Lime Street refuse to sell me an off peak ticket ticket before 6pm, even though the next available train to where I was going didn't leave until 1801.

Indeed, I've had ticket office staff refuse to sell off-peak tickets until 0930 to at least 10 people, when the train is 0933 - meaning, obviously, not everyone got their tickets in time for the train between '30 and '33..

No, but it was not understanding how the computer worked, not just mistakes....

Your sure about that? You know how the machine works and how hard it can be to make mistakes on them? You know the clerk was useless from that one transaction?

I have had days where I have needed that many attempts to get the ticket right, I have even had days where pressing one wrong button has cost the company £1000 or more, and I don't think my training was bad, I'm certainly not a bad clerk, but like evryone else in this world, I make mistakes.

In the attempt to get it right quickly, the clerk forgets to set the date, add a railcard, what have you, everytime they get it wrong there is more pressure to get it right quickly, particularly if there is a queue, which leads to more mistakes. It was one mistake on top of another, unless of course, you know that the particular clerk has a habit of getting things wrong on a regular basis?

What ticket was it? I wouldn't have thought many (if any?) tickets are restricted from Liverpool in the evening peak?

I know XC, FSR, FCC and NXEA do evening peak restrictions on Off Peak Day tickets, do any others? And in some cases the restriction does not even apply to the outward portion.

Off peak day single to a few stations out with Northern.
