Hi

I'm just curious, do rail staff receive any kind of discount at station shops / eateries?

Can PM if preferable.

Cheers.

SSP tend to give 20% off - but this is the same discount as the Bite cards which are available to the general public anyway.

Some McDonalds restaurants offer discounts.

A number of independent places give money off as well.

That's helpful thank you, I have actually just ordered the BITE card which prompted my thinking of the above.

AMT knock 10% off as do LA Golden Bean & Coffee Link. Many smaller private outlets do too.

Depends on location. Most do but there is no rule. At places like kings x and Cambridge station some outlets offer some kind of discount if in uniform but others don't offer any discount at all.

Almost all of the catering outlets, and some of the other retailers, at St. Pancras offer some sort of discount.

Starbucks used to offer discounts at St Pancras but they no longer do, not sure when they stopped but got told by staff there they haven't done so for a while.

I never knew that. Always make a point of calling in when in town. Cheers :p

I like using that place, it's the best part of Birmingham ;)

Some clerks exchange the booking offices excess change for free chips, car washes and hot drinks in some places I know... Other than that we get a free bitecard.

The Starbucks kiosks run by SSP used to give the Bite Card discount too, but Starbucks UK told them to stop as it was not an authorised Starbucks discount. This must be three years ago. I'd assume the kiosks in St Pancras are the same.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess i'll ask the question should I pop in somewhere for a coffee, worst case they say no!

I know it's been a while but are there any retailers at London Waterloo, London Victoria or London Blackfriars that do a discount?

That's interesting, because Starbucks in Cineworld offer discounts for unlimited members.

Bite is down to 10% now. You can get better value at Boots for a meal deal if you have an advantage card you quite frequently get vouchers for money off the next one.

I've almost stopped having coffee from Upper Crust & such like as it's now over £3.10 for a nice big latté! :o

Some of them do, Upper Crust, The Pasty Shop and a couple of others, basically the ones on the barrier line. I can't remember if MaccyD's does it, Burger King I think (haven't used it in ages).

Some of these discounts look quite attractive.

Is there any law forbidding an ordinary member of the public from simulating a railwayman in a coffee shop?
