Staff call 100 at BHM

I don't know but supermarkets use codes like that to alert staff to a shoplifter or some sort of problem/emergency

The only code I know is the Mr Sands one for fire

It'll be some kind of code call that varies by location. Where I used to work it was a staff announcement for a named former area manager to contact a grade of staff that didn't exist as an evacuation preliminary.

It means run for your lives the zombie apocalypse has begun! That or Greggs has a fresh try of sausage rolls about to come out of the oven!

As I haven’t read that the station has been destroyed in a vast conflagration of unpleasantness I wouldn’t worry about it!

afaik General call for all staff etc (rail & non rail) to search for a suspicious object!
Eg Bomb Threat!
As a passenger/ customer I would quietly leave on the next train, or exit the building!

In my experience it could also mean a fire detector triggered, as last time I heard this repeated it was followed several minutes later by "Attention please, this is an emergency. Please leave the station by the nearest available exit" - later explained to be a false fire alarm.

If I was in charge of a major public facility, this is exactly how I would handle an evacuation due to a bomb threat.

The "false fire alarm" line is almost completely unbelievable.

I did think about that, but then I thought that surely if the staff became aware of a bomb threat, for safety, they'd go directly to the evacuation rather than let the previous message repeat for several minutes first. I guessed instead that with all the construction work happening at New Street, a detector had been triggered and they couldn't determine if there was really a fire in time to prevent the system moving to evacuation mode (or manually decided to do so, as they hadn't established it within some time set out in procedure).

I could easily be entirely wrong, and you may be right. I'll never know for sure what was behind it. I'm just glad that everything was okay and we were allowed back on board in enough time for me to get to work punctually!

If the message is repeated continuously an evacuation could be imminent. The last thing anyone needs is panic - people can get hurt.
Trained staff who know their drill from cleaners, security upwards would move quickly to open & man exits, unlock turnstiles/ remove barriers in readiness for a safe public evacuation. Then the 'emergency evacuation' would be announced.

Announcing/ saying just the word 'bomb' or 'fire' could have dire consequences.

Staff Call 100 is used at New Street instead of playing the Inspector Sands announcement when the fire panel has been triggered, but not yet gone into auto evacuation (i.e. one call point or a smoke/heat detector in a public area has been activated).

I notice that our old friend 'staff call 100' was back on duty again at 8am this morning.

I live next to BHM, and this happens every second week or so (excluding the weekly test on Satuday night). Unfortunately such a common occurrence that it's not really worth reporting.
