I usually buy my tickets online at eastcoast.co.uk, and one of the journeys I make regularly is Stafford > Cambridge, by doing it on eastcoast I can tick the "CrossCountry trains only" option and I get the the fare for the cheapest I've been able to find it.

However, when I've asked for this ticket at the station, specifically stating I want to travel by CrossCountry trains only, they are never able to find it. The closet they've been able to quote me was a standard single fare between Stafford and Birmingham, and then the advanced single between Birmingham and Cambridge. Yet I've been to the website just a few hours later and was able to find my ticket. Everytime that's happened..

I know I should just carry on buyng my tickets online, but sometimes it's just more convenient to buy tickets at the station when I'm there for whatever reason..

Any ideas on what to actually ask for?

Take a screen shot of the eastcoast site and see if the booking office can find the correct fare from that ?

I think Stafford ticket office uses Tribute which cannot filter by TOC (unlike STAR).

How does Tribute work with Journey Planner? It is Journey Planner that allows to include/exclude TOCs and of course being integrated with STAR allows easy ticketing from there.

I believe West Coast have now switched from using Tribute to using Shere SMART (they have at Manchester Piccadilly, anyway).

I haven't used SMART for ages, but it always used to be possible to set a journey up in RJIS and transfer it across, so I would hope the same is possible with Journey Planner.

Personally though, I prefer Cubic FasTIS or the old text mode interface to Tribute, but then that's what I'm used to.

Cheers,

Barry
