'ST' Sign

Noticed this sign reading "ST" at Tunbridge Wells Station today (just behind the 5-12 car stop sign). Anyone know what it means?

't' for trains 'Turning back' (reversing/changing ends)
allows driving cab at other end of train to be positioned correctly for signal sighting.

Ah, that makes sense now. I always wondered why Marple station had two stop signs, one for a class 156 and another for a class 142, just beyond the platform for trains terminating and crossing over to return to Manchester.

I couldn't work out why they had two signs about 3 metres apart, when surely one would do. I suppose its so the driver has best view of the small floor signal and otherwise may be too far way from a smaller 142.
