St Paul's - King's Cross

At the weekend I purchased a First Class Anytime Single from Moorgate to Letchworth, which I intend to use tommorow. The ticket is marked 'Any Permitted' under the Route Section.

Originally, my plan was to walk from St Paul's Cathedral back to Moorgate. But to save time, can I use this ticket to go from St Paul's to Holborn (via the Central Line) and then onto King's Cross via the Piccadily? Or will I have to buy a new ticket if I want to make this journey?

It is marked 'London Terminals' to 'Letchworth Garden City.'

The only LU availability with such a ticket would be between King's Cross St. Pancras/Moorgate/Old Street and Finsbury Park, under the interavailability rules.

To be valid elsewhere on LU, it would need to be issued to/from "Zone U1 London" or similar, or a Day Travelcard.

London Terminals tickets are not valid for cross London travel and so in this case you would have to buy a ticket to get from St Paul's to Kings Cross.

Walking to City Thameslink and getting the train to St Pancras may be quicker, depending on whereabouts the Cathedral you are

Therefore, the excess is £5.00! As well as being poor value, I doubt this could be issued at St Pauls or Holborn or any other LU only station!

I would suggest using Oyster PAYG instead, or walk (Google Maps suggests 12-16 minutes, depending on which side of the Cathedral you're originating from)

If walking isn't an option, and if PAYG isn't an option, then a paper single, at £4, is still cheaper than an inclusive ticket!

Your ticket from London Terminals to Letchworth can either be used on Capital Connect services from Moorgate via Drayton Park or on the Underground from Moorgate to Kings + St Pancras and then on Capital Connect services from Kings + to Letchworth.

If you want to travel from St Pauls or Holborn then you should use Oyster Pay As You Go.

To be honest, depending on exactly where you are starting, and your walking speed, I'm not convinced that going by tube from St Pauls to Holborn then to Kings Cross would work out much quicker, if at all, than walking to Moorgate. Two main reasons for this: the interchange at Holborn is moderately lengthy by tube standards, and is mostly fairly narrow, meaning that it tends to be overcrowded, slowing things down somewhat; and the interchange at Kings Cross isn't that short, either.

Failing that, the no 100 bus will get you from St Pauls to Moorgate quickly enough, and for substantially less than the tube Zone 1 fare.

Thank you for all the replies. Much appreciated as I'm no good with tickets.

Having said that, I think W-on-Sea might be right - I checked out on Google maps as yorkie suggested and it doesn't look like the walk is that lenghthy whatsoever. I've been in Moorgate a few times and I recognise more of it than I thought, hence I'll be walking, then taking the Northern Line to King's Cross.

I'd recommend City Thameslink to St Pancras (using Oyster) and then wander over the road for a nice train to Letchworth.

Don't worry, I was going to KX anyway and then onto Stevenage with East Coast. Plenty of food, plenty of First Class.

When I got to KX yesterday, the ticket man said my ticket wasn't valid. I told him I had come from Moorgate via the Northern Line, but he insisted.

I wasn't having it, I told him he was clearly wrong, and had I not been minutes from missing the 1508 I would have told him to get his supervisor, or some form of authority, to clarify the situation.

Anyway, after a minute arguing, he took pity and let me through, still insisting that the ticket wasn't valid. I said 'You're clearly wrong, this ticket is valid' and walked off. When I got to Letchworth, I checked it out, and what do you know.......the staff clarified that the ticket was valid for such a journey.

*I should probably clarify that the reason I had to ask to get threw was because the barriers wouldn't accept the ticket.
