I had an advance ticket from St Pancras to Nottingham earlier this week. When I arrived at the gateline they said there were problems, the train was cancelled and they didn’t know when trains would be running again.

They said to go to Kings Cross and maybe change at Grantham, and that my ticket would be valid. When I checked this route online for the 2133 departure, I couldn’t see how it would work as I would have missed the last train from Grantham.

Instead I found a journey option via Euston and Tamworth. This was successful and no-one looked at my ticket.

In hindsight I can see ticket acceptance was only via Kings Cross, and changing at Newark would have worked.

Can I claim delay repay even though I was travelling on the wrong route?

Yes, you can still claim Delay Repay. When filling out the form with EMR you simply enter the journey you intended to make (i.e your booked itinerary on your Advance) and how long you were delayed. You don't need to go into how you actually ended up travelling.
