Not going to the opening of the station but have the possible oppertunity to attend the pre-opening station testing involving the rehearsal of checking passengers in, testing station facilities and travelling to/from Ebbsfleet for on-board crew to do their stuff.

As someone in the know, how long do you reckon this will take? I was going to send me form off, but it mentioned hours of sitting around Even if we do get a free ticket out of it for the normal trains!

5-8 hours, arriving at St Pancras between 0730 and 1130 on the dates they supplied. I'm guessing the exact time people will be expected will be given nearer the time.

I was told that the 'long period of waiting' was just as the staff got ready for the 'passengers' before each asctivity started.

Also i dont think many trains (hardly any) will leave the station. I think we'll all go through checkin, departures, on the platform, *imaginary departure, imaginary arrival* and then just get off the train and head for arrivals as such. still sounds a good day!

temple mills is 'open' as such, it is ready and the test trains between St P and Ashford are using it daily.

The CTRL connects to the WCML, MML and ECML on the approach to St Pancras International. Does this mean that any rail traffic (passenger or freight) can make an all-electric trip to Europe? Will it eventually be possible to buy a 'through ticket' from any UK station to one on the continent?

That was the idea back in 1994. There was even a projected timetable issued for said idea. I'm not that versed on the subject, but I think there may be problems with the differing power currents between countries that would prevent such a thing.
I am still dreaming of a direct route from Stratford International to Barcelona, but as I said, it is a dream..:-P

The North of London Eursotars were even built for this project IIRC. I do hope it happens. It can't compete with flights from Scotland, but I'd rather take the train even if it is hours longer.

Unfortunately, I can't see Eurostar re-visiting the idea of direct connections from UK cities to the continent. Of course, there's nothing to stop other operators from doing it, once the CTRL (sorry, HS1) is available for open access. However, unless a new operator buys its own fleet of trains (which will be rather expensive), the availability of suitable rolling stock will be extremely scarce, due to the Channel Tunnel's tight safety regulations.

Still, there's nothing to stop a group of railway companies getting together and forming a consortium, allowing costs to be shared.

And any trains using HS1 would need to be able to run at line speed or they'd cause delays to Eurostars etc. So you won't see any Pendolinos south of Euston.

I was always under the impression that the final "nail in the coffin" for North of London Eurostar services was the UK's requirement for somewhat stricter immigration than other European countries, meaning stations would have to be drastically remodelled having special international platforms, or doing something like what they do at Lille in between domestic and international services which can use the same platforms.

According to the DB timetable, it's 11:06, train number 9126 to Brussels.
The first train to Paris is 9024, at 12:30.

On Tuesday the Queen opened St Pancras Officially, i was not invted Boo Hoo! However, on wednesday, Eurostar re-run the opening ceremony again for us Employees and industry hacks. It was extreemly impressive, unfortunately, i did not have my camera with me as i was there in a working capacity. The station is very very impressive. Watching the eurostars arrive at the same time through the dry ice was brilliant.

If you go onto the MML area of the station (platforms) you can see the whole lot. Looks stunning.
