St Albans South Signal Box - "Virtual Opening"

The preserved 1892 Midland Railway signal box at St Albans City station will not be able to open this month for the Heritage Open Days as we normally would. The narrowness of the box and our garden paths mean that we cannot safely maintain 'social distancing' both for our visitors and our volunteers.

We have therefore made several videos showing our garden and the box as a substitute for an actual visit:

None at all - the confines of the box and the narrowness and layout of the garden paths around the box make it extremely difficult to have a one-way system or to maintain social distancing in the present conditions. The Trustees are continuing to monitor the situation.

Understood, thanks. It’s definitely on my list for a visit when you do reopen. I go past it often enough .
