SSR signal failures

Most of the SSR is suspended due to signal system failure this morning. After a night of exceptional rain and lightning, I am curious whether the weather is the cause of the failure?

The new signaling system on the S.S.R is very vulnerable to lightning strikes with in many cases T.O’s having to go trackside to reset wayside radio units or feeder pillar’s following such events.

Last night’s lighting was almost unheard of in london so I can well

At Acton Town, staff had recorded an announcement. It was saying the district line suspension was “due to flooding”.

The radio/WiFi part of the signalling system seems not to be very resilient to lightening, not sure if it is the airborne EMC which confuses things and 'fails safe' or sags/surges on the power supplies which similarly locks up the processors.
The new signalling does not use track circuits which typically suffered if the track bed got waterlogged

It’s strange that the District line is still split Richmond/Ealing-High Street Kensington and Olympia-Upminster this long after the signal failures. I wonder if this is related to the heat speed restrictions?

It’s just a special timetable because of the significant disruption this morning. By doing so they can ensure the best possible headways rather than attempting to run the normal timetable with huge gaps. If you aren’t ready to start bringing back in the regular timetable for when the late turn drivers book on, typically you’re stuck with it for the rest of the day.
