Just after leaving Rugby, on the left hand side of the formation travelling South, there is a curvy spur branching off. Where does it lead to or is it just a long siding? Thanks in advance.

According to Baker's "Rail Atlas (12th Edition)" published in 2010, this line is marked as 'Coal and Intermodal terminal' and 'Engineering Depot'.

Believe Bilton would be heading north?
Heading south the curve to the left is to Rugby Depot (run by Colas Rail)

Thanks, Sam

It is part of the web of lines which used to lead to the Peterborough branch.
Rugby's locomotive testing station was in that corner of the station site and I think the spur gave access to that and the goods lines north of the station.

The stub of a branch line it runs down to a buffer beside the canal where the bridge has been removed. From there you can set back into the shed and sidings of Rugby DED, or into the two remaining carriage sidings.

The former Rugby to Market Harborough line (or the section leading from Rugby station heading north) was formerly electrified as far as Clifton Mill station - but cut back - as mentioned, to the stub at Butlers Leap bridge:

The line heading north is seen here in c.1966 equipped with OHLE, in-fact two tracks are electrified on the 'to' Market Harborough section of the line, close to the now-removed rail-over-canal bridge:

A spur to Rugby DED (District Electric Depot) now a Colas depot, a line alongside the carriage sidings, and the single return line from Clifton Mill to the down-side of Rugby station over the golf course viaduct was also electrified, but this has mostly been removed after closure. Although at least one road of the Colas depot is still wired to allow electric trains to access the site.

The spur into the DED was the branch into the AEI & BTH works (latterly GEC/Alstom). Until very recently two bridges existed over the Black Path but the bridge over Mill Road went long ago.

This picture of Rugby station from John Woolley's Flickr collection has me intrigied - I added a comment under the pic similar to the query below, but no response as yet:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/pics-by-john/8005226396/in/faves-23917561@N03/

In the far distance and on the right-hand-side of the picture is track electrified with cantilever style OHLE (the upside-down 'L' type) just to the left (but probably behind in real life) of the water tower. That bit of track doesn't appear to exist today looking from roughly the same point today, and it seems too close to the station to be associated with the aforementioned District Electric Depot or the Peterborough Branch. Rugby's carriage sidings are there too - you can make out the end-of-electrification boards dangling down, and they still remain today. But what is that short piece of wired line?
