Hello,

Does anyone know where I could find information for the service patterns on the SPT Network pre-Airdrie - Bathgate re-opening?

I've searched on google but haven't been able to find anything.

Thanks.

Which parts do you mean and when? ;)

Assuming you mean the North Clyde routes, in the immediate run up to Airdrie-Bathgate re-opening was quite similar in that there was:

Helensburgh-Drumgelloch every 30 mins (which became through Edinburgh service)
Balloch-Airdrie every 30 mins
Milngavie-Bellgrove every 30 mins (ECS to Shettleston loop - became through Edinburgh service).
Dalmuir-Springburn every 30 mins.

The Milngavie-Bellgrove service was a late introduction which was a forerunner of through Edinburgh service. Historically it had been Milngavie-Springburn every 30 mins. The Dalmuir-Springburn introduced was also aimed at providing every 15 min service via Yoker - at the same time the Milngavie branch went every 15 mins with services to the Argyle line when Larkhall opened in 2006.

I should've said, it's the North Clyde and Lanarkshire service patterns I'm trying to find.

Did the Class 334s work any North Clyde services before the Bathgate line reopening?

Yes, they directly replaced the Class 303s. Although that's off-topic for this post I think.

Does anyone know the service patterns for the Lanrkshire services pre - Airdrie to Bathgate, please?

This timetable is from 2004, so it should have the service patterns that you are after.

General weekday pattern on the Argyle Line seems to be:
  • 1tph Dalmuir - Singer - Glasgow Central - Hamilton Central - Motherwell - Holytown - Lanark
  • 1tph Dalmuir - Yoker - Glasgow Central - Bellshill - Motherwell
  • 1tph Dalmuir - Singer - Glasgow Central - Hamilton Central - Motherwell
  • 1tph Dalmuir - Yoker - Glasgow Central - Bellshill - Motherwell - Shieldmuir - Lanark
This gives a half-hourly frequency between Glasgow Central and most stations in Lanarkshire, although it does cause the timetable through the central section to be somewhat lop-sided, with trains departing at intervals of 10 or 20 minutes.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
The Sunday service was different to the weekday pattern, and I believe was broadly similar to today.

2tph Helensburgh Central - Drumgellech (1989 site) via Singer. These now continue to Edinburgh via Bathgate.
2tph Balloch - Motherwell via Yoker and Bellshill (1tph continued to Lanark via Sheildmuir, 1tph returned to Milngavie via Blantyre and Westerton).
2tph Milngavie - Motherwell via Western and Blantyre (1tph returning to Balloch via Bellshill and Yoker)
1tp2h Glasgow Central High Level - Shotts and 1tp2h Fauldhouse - Edinburgh Waverley (outwith the Sundays in December festive additional trains. These eventually were joined up to run as per the Monday - Saturday through service, as SPT provided funding for Glasgow - Shotts, and the Lothian Region councils provided funding for the Fauldhouse - Edinburgh workings which started ahead of the Glasgow - Shotts workings)
1tph Glasgow Central High Level - Newton via Maxwell Park
1tph Glasgow Central - Newton via Queens Park

At one time, there was "No Sunday Service" at Renton, Alexandria, Balloch, both routes between Glasgow Central High Level and Newton, and Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts. Also, there was no service on Sundays between Rutherglen and Whifflet.

The Yoker route was already every 15 minutes in 2004 albeit the North Clyde trains ran Dalmuir to Bellgrove rather than Springburn. When did the timetable go non symettrical, i.e. trains to Larkhall run via Singer but from Larkhall run via Yoker?
