Sprinters operating in London

Looking for photos of Anglia Railways Class 150s on Flickr, I stumbled across this, which is 150229 sitting at London Liverpool Street. Which I found especially unusual.

Which made me wonder, apart from Silverlink's 150s on the GOBLIN and SWT's 158/159s, have any other Sprinters been used on regular services in the London area? And have there been any strays where Sprinters have ended up on services to the capitsal which they're not supposed to be on.

Wales & West used to run regular Alphaline services to Waterloo using 158s.

ATW planned on using 158s to Marylebone if their track access application for direct Cambrian services to London had worked (but they were obviously turned down).

There was a booked working for an Anglia 150 into Liverpool Street (around 1998 to 2000 as far I can remember). It worked a late evening service to Liverpool Street and an early morning Liverpool Street to Sheringham service.

apart from ... SWT's 158/159s

...these are not a rare sight. They form two trains per hour to or from Salisbury, more than half of which continue to or from stations between there and Exeter St Davids, and in a few cases Bristol Temple Meads.

I *believe* (so I may be wrong) they have been used in emergency on the 458 route to Reading as well before now.

They do use express sprinters into Waterloo, if that counts!

Technically, 158/159s are Sprinters. They were marketed as 'Express Sprinters' by BR. 153/155/156s were 'Super Sprinters', whilst the 150s were the original Sprinters...

I appreciate what you are saying, but I'd class 158/159s as being part of the Sprinter family so relevant to this thread.

Yes Rochdale/Blackpool North-London Euston pairing up at Warrington Bank Quay.

I remember seeing in a rail magazine that for a short period Anglia 150's were hired by Silverlink for the Watford Junction- St. Albans Abbey branch during some kind of replacement of the overhead lines.

Also Silverlink's own 150's have operated on the Clapham to Willesden line in place of a 313.

Silverlink I think used a class 150 on the Richmond to Stratford service on a few occasions as well to cover for unavilable class 313's.

Slightly off topic but hasnt FGW used a class 150 and 142 to cover for a failed hst on a Paignton - London Paddington? I believe it may have only got as far as Swindon (A shame as I would love to see a sprinter or pacer at London Paddington

Yes indeed, there is another thread on it somewhere. I know the driver, he also signed to Paddington and offered to take it there, but the Gaurd didn't sign the Road

Not sure if this counts as 'regular service', but it seems the 151 prototype visited St Pancras on several occasions.
