Splits Canterbury to Durham for Today

Hello people.

A friend of a friend needs to travel from Canterbury to Durham TODAY and is looking for the cheepest option possible. The super off peak single is £138.30 but i'm sure someone here could do better. I have tried splitting but that area of the world isn't my forte.

Have you tried trainscanbecheaper.info?

Splitting doesn't work well with such a long journey entirely off peak (as described in previous threads; not easy for me to quote now as on my phone)

Grand central singles can reduce the cost; change at northallerton (transpennine Durham to northallerton)

Canterbury Stns - London Terminals
Route Not Valid On HS1
Super Off-Peak Day Single
£21.10

London Terminals - York
Route Grand Ctrl Only
Off-Peak Single
£50

York - Durham
Route Any Permitted
Off-Peak Day Single
£26.30

You will need additionally a ticket (or use Oyster PAYG) to get across London as the first ticket is not valid beyond City Thameslink on the Thameslink route.

This is probably not the cheapest option however it does allow more flexibility changing at York.
