Hi

My normal journey is Castle Cary to Reading, I split my ticket at

Westbury, Pewsey & Newbury

Due to the engineering works for electrification. Newbury is shut at regular intervals over the next few months and the train I catch is being diverted via Swindon.

My question is, Am OK with using my normal split on the service ? Or is it not valid because the train isnt going via its normal route ?

No it wouldn’t be valid as the train wouldn’t call at Pewsey or Newbury.

You will need to pass through all stations where you tickets change unless an easement is allowed (see below for Pewsey easements)
Do you use season tickets for all of your journey? If so see quote below
Map of replacement bus services
newbury-area-map-revised.jpg

From GWR
Season ticket holders with tickets valid for one month or longer from Pewsey, Bedwyn, Hungerford, Kintbury or Newbury may use South Western Railway services from Salisbury, Grateley, Andover, Whitchurch or Overton for travel towards Reading and London Paddington/Waterloo.

Season ticket holders from Pewsey, Bedwyn and Hungerford may also use Chippenham or Swindon for travel towards Reading and London Paddington.

If you plan to make different arrangements during the work - such as working from home, or taking leave - you can buy season tickets for any period providing it is longer than one month. This means you get maximum value from your ticket.

If you plan to use Didcot Parkway station during this work, we suggest using our replacement buses from Newbury - as car parking spaces will be limited.

Otherwise your only easement will be
from GWR
tickets from Pewsey, Bedwyn and Hungerford may be used from Swindon at no extra cost

You will need a ticket from Westbury to Chippenham/Swindon rather than Pewsey or alternatively from Westbury to Salisbury. You could also contact GWR and ask for permission to use your normal tickets.

Surely as tickets from Pewsey are valid from Swindon and tickets from Newbury are valid from Didcot the following is true...

Westbury-Pewsey is valid Westbury-Swindon
Pewsey-Newbury is valid Swindon-Didcot (as didcot if where you go for bus to Newbury)
Newbury-Paddington is valid Didcot-Paddington

Therefore no need for any new tickets although getting guards to see that could be more challenging!
