Hi all, I’m a bit confused about purchasing some tickets using TrainSplit via rail forums. I’m travelling from Morpeth to york 11th March and want to travel the cheapest possible ticket. There is an option for purchasing the advanced ticket 7:04 Transpennine to Newcastle, with a short change then getting the 7:30 Newcastle to York.

The e-ticket says valid Specific TPE trains and connections only, but the ticket code says TD. So why is it letting me get on the 7:30 LNER service? Sticking to the itinerary isn’t going to get me in trouble is it?

I’ve purchased tickets before at this time and they’ve been TG.

So confused as always with purchasing tickets.

Many thanks for your help.

C

Interesting. The £9.10 railcard discounted fare (Morpeth->York) Anytime Single does seem to be route "AP TPE Only". Changing onto an LNER service at Newcastle doesn't seem quite right! :s

Thoroughly confused! There is a TPE service at 7:45 I could get to stick to the TD restriction, but the advanced ticket itinerary specifically shows the 7:30 LNER train.

LNER is a required connecting service therefore its valid. I will happily admit that it's counter intuitive but it is valid. You won't have any bother using the ticket as long as you follow the advertised itinerary.

Looking at BRFares, it appears the route AP TPE & Connections tickets are a bit of a mess in terms of restrictions:
  • First Class:
    • 1AF, 1BF, 1CF, 1DF, 1EF, 1GF and 1HF have restriction code TG.
    • 1FF, 1LF, 1MF, 1NF and 1RF have restriction code TD.
    • 1JF and 1KF have restriction code TM.
  • Standard Class:
    • 2AF, 2BF, 2CF, 2DF, 2EF, 2FF, 2GF, 2HF and 2NF have restriction code TG.
    • 2JF, 2KF, 2LF, 2MF and 2RF have restriction code TD.

So noted. The particularly confusing thing seemed to be that the £9.10 fare is apparently routed "AP TPE Only" rather than route "AP TPE & Connect" or "LNER & Connections" (or anything else).

It's this ticket: https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail?orig=MPT&dest=YRK&rte=456&tkt=2RF&period=20250302

While 00485 AP TPE Only does bar travel on every TOC except TPE, 00456 AP TPE & CONNECT does not.

The current £9.10 fare won't be £9.10 after 2 March! :)

And you can't search for fares with some Railcards from 2 March and later on BRFares right now due to an issue with the industry data regarding Railcard discounts as detailed in: https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...e-fares-after-upcoming-price-increase.282262/

I think there has been some drift off topic about future fares and restrictions codes. The key points for the OP are:
  1. You are always entitled to follow the itinerary you select when booking. Your tickets are contractually valid on those trains, even if the booking site happened to make a mistake.
  2. An "X & Connections" Advance, such as the £9.10 "TPE & Connections" ticket discussed, does not necessarily need to involve travelling with the "main" train operator for the majority of the journey. Any leg of any length involving that main operator is sufficient; you should simply follow the booked itinerary. The forum's site is entirely correct to sell this Advance ticket, as it involves at least one TPE train.
