Split tickets and pick up only services.

Jut a quick one, can split tickets be used on a service where the changeover of validity from one ticket to the next is a pick up only service.

So eg.

Service from station A to station C with a single from A to B and the return portion of a B to C ticket where the stop at B is pickup only.

If the A to B ticket wouldn't be valid by itself then I don't believe it's strictly valid, though I guess you could argue the point that as you are staying on the train the restriction doesn't apply.

Technically no. Split tickets only work if you can do each individual part of the ticket on its own - as you wouldn't normally be allowed to travel A-B (as you can't leave at B), it wouldn't be valid.

Some guards might be more lenient, but it's not worth the hassle incase you have to buy a new ticket regularly

I’m sure there will be guards who will not like this, and i would assume it is technically invalid but the majority shouldn’t be too bothered.

We've been through this before. There is no requirement in the Conditions of Carriage that the train must call to set down and pick up.

We have never had consensus on this before but my interpretation is that a pick-up only call is still a station call.

In your example, although you have a ticket from A to B, the train you are travelling on does not call at B (for passengers from A), and so it is not possible to use the first split ticket on that service. That means the ticket is not valid for that service. According to the NRCoT, you need to possess a valid ticket for your journey. The fact that you have another ticket for another part of the journey does not make the first one valid, and therefore I don't think the split is valid.

I disagree. The NRCoT only states the train has to call at the changeover point. If the Train makes a passenger call then it is valid.

I agree with this interpretation. There is nothing in the NRCoT that says it must be possible to alight the train. In any case, there is a strong case to be made that the validity of a ticket expires when you reach the destination station - if not then it would be possible to go round and round on circular services.
