Split ticket when train calls for staffing reasons

Hi, I was thinking of making a journey fróm Reading to Bodmin Parkway this week on the 0829 from Reading and usually I split the ticket at Taunton to reduce the cost. But I notice that on several of the days this week the train is scheduled to run non-stop from Reading to Plymouth which means getting an anytime ticket all the way to Plymouth. But having looked at RTT, it seems the train is making its normal stops for staffing reasons only.
So according to the split ticket rules the train is stopping at Taunton and Exeter so does anyone think I could still split the tickets at Taunton or Exter and stay within the rules or would I have to buy the really expensive anytime ticket right through to Plymouth.
I know in reality it's probably best not to take the chance of being penalised if I tried splitting at Taunton or Exeter but I just wondered what other people thought about this rather odd situation. It seems it's to do with some surfing contest at Newquay.

It has to be a passenger stop both for
pick up and set down I'm afraid.

Edit: assuming it isn't a rover or season ticket.

It depends on what tickets you are using for your split - if one is a rover or ranger ticket the train would not need to call, but if they are both point-to-point tickets it will need to.

If the stop doesn't appear in RTT's simple mode (or indeed any other places equivalent), the train is not stopping for the general public and therefore ticketing.

Set down or pick up stops do of course still appear, and similarly cannot be used for splits involving single/return fares.

For @lawried123 's benefit - the Devon Ranger costs £16 and is valid from Tiverton Parkway to Plymouth. This would allow a non-stop split at Tiverton.

I was wondering about this but would it be valid on a train that left the last station before 09.00?

There could be a dispute on that point, you're right. My interpretation would be that you can use it so long as the train isn't booked to depart or pass through the split point before 09:00 but no doubt there would be a minority of guards who'd claim the train couldn't depart the last station before the "non-stop" split before 9am.
