Have you got a link for that WYPTE condition? All I can find is the condition below which seems to allow these sort of combinations:

but the condition I link to doesn't prevent the ticket combinations as Ferret suggests? A York-Micklefield season ticket could be combined with a WYPTE Zones 1-3 ticket for a York-Leeds non-stop journey. (Though doing this is more expensive than not splitting!)
