Ok, so I was a bit bored and I can imagine this would gain interest.

Nobody knows quite what the GWML will look like post IEP introduction. What we do know is Crossrail will have all the paths on the RL apart from the 2 Oxford Stoppers as far as Maidenhead. The HeX express paths cannot be altered. I think we could end up with something looking like the below on the Mains. Also we now know that all 80x will be Bi-mode. I was interested in what the final product would would like

xx00 - Weston S M (RA BPW) (125mph)
xx03 - Bristol TM via Bath (125mph)
xx06 - Plymouth/Penzance via Desert (125mph)
xx10 - Hex (100mph)
xx15 - Cardiff (Carmarthen in peaks) (125mph)
xx18 - Newbury (110mph)
xx22 - Oxford (125mph) - Stops at Slough
xx25 - HeX (100mph)
xx30 - Bristol TM (RA BPW) (125mph)
xx33 - Bristol TM via Bath (125mph)
xx36 - Wesbury/Exeter/Paignton (125mph)
xx40 - HeX (100mph)
xx45 - Swansea (125mph)
xx48 - Cheltenham (125mph)
xx52 - Worcester/Gt Malvern/Hereford (125mph - Stops at Slough)
xx55 - Hex

With Peak extra Queue buster paths
xx12 - Oxford (first stop Twyford) - 110mph
xx27 - Reading/Didcot (first stop Maidenhead) - 110mph
xx42 - Swindon (first stop Twyford) - 110mph
xx57 - Reading/Didcot (first stop Maidenhead) - 110mph
Those extras can be switched to the RL at Maidenhead East. This is where the xx00, xx15, xx30 and xx45 will overtake (and no doubt be checked down on approach). No other way of fitting them all in, but the capacity is needed. Most of these could be 12 cars to try and entice Reading commuters off the longer distance services.

Peak Variations
xx00 - 5 off peak, 10 car peak
xx30 to be 2x5 car in the peak, and split at BPW, with one portion off to Cardiff. Also these will run fast to Bristol Parkway non-stop

Plymouth/Penzance - Mostly 10 cars, with 5 cars between Plymouth and Cornwall off peak, 9 or 10 car through services in the peaks.

The idea of running the two Bristols one in front of the other is to manage loadings better, so all passengers going to Bristol and beyond directed to the Fast via PW service, and those for stations in between put onto the service 3 minutes later, which stops at all the usual places. Additionally, those services via Bath could be advertised as "Bath Spa" at Paddington to deter Bristol punters away. Gives passengers at stations in between more chance of a seat. Run them 15 mins apart, and one train will be overcrowded, while the flyers lightly loaded.

One thing I do know is that NR will want to avoid a major change the current pattern, to avoid a near nationwide timetable re-write (if you change the WoE pattern, you mess up XC, change the SW diagrams, you mess up ATW. Rewrite XC and AW, and that could mean re-writes further north).

Can anyone to better than that or have any other wacky idea's

Legend:
BPW = Bristol Parkway
Hex = Heathrow Exrpess
TM = Temple Meads
Desert = Berks & Hants line between Reading and Taunton avoiding Bristol.

Disclaimer: This is a Trivia thread, so nothing set in stone, none of the above has a bearing on what will actually happen in reality.

Just pointing out that what I put is not to be considered as Fact. It's not a negative

Sorry but you definitely have written a double negative, as I shall explain.

none of the above has no bearing.

This should be written as "none of the above has a bearing"; or "the above has no bearing".

It's a common thing in Hull, I myself avoid it where possible but I here many people say it without consideration.

A good plan, along the lines of what I had thought up myself. Had been wondering about the spacing of the Bristols, and didn't think of this pattern, which would work well, and indeed is what I used when I did my fantasy East Coast pattern so should have got that too!
I can see this working throughout the day, with only a few extras for peaks as you identify so well done!

In addition, I would suggest that:
*All WoE operate through to Penzance, apart from the last couple which would terminate at Plymouth.
*xx22 Oxford, as a bi-mode, extended to Banbury, Leamington, Solihull and Birmingham Moor Street
*At least three services to and from Carmarthen each day. (0530,0730 & 0930 in and 1515,1715 & 1915 back)

You seem to forgetting the rather minor detail that in the peaks there are basically 2tph to/from the Cotswold Line via Oxford - and there will likely be one or two more trains in that category post-December 2018.

Never mind that about the last thing that is needed on the railways right now are yet more trains between London and Birmingham - nor is it GWR's job to bail out XC between Reading and Birmingham.

Not really expecting GW to bail out XC, more like additional connectivity and greater benefits for the customer. If anything with two TOCS this could help drive fares the right way too. With trans of 2x5 car a split at Oxford could still happen and send half to Birmingham and half to Worcester.

In any case:

You're missing 2tph to Oxford (semi fast to Reading, then local stopping service)

In any case:

It would be a waste of stock, which will be needed to provide as many 2x5 car sets as possible in the peaks.

What additional connectivity? There are already plenty of services available to passengers wanting to travel between Oxford, Banbury, Leamington and Birmingham - so unless such a service would be there to bail out XC, what passenger benefit would there be?

Just in case you haven't noticed, there already is a choice of TOC available to passengers between Banbury, Leamington and Birmingham.

There might be additional connectivity and passenger benefit if the odd GWR service extended between Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon, as that would be something different, rather than more of the same.

So the thread says trivia in the heading? So what? Doesn't mean things posted here somehow get a free pass from being commented on.

. The HeX express paths cannot be altered.
Says who? You could move them around the clockface to your hearts content if you wanted and everyone agreed.

xx00 - Weston S M (RA BPW) (125mph)
xx03 - Bristol TM via Bath (125mph)
xx06 - Plymouth/Penzance via Desert (125mph)
xx10 - Hex (100mph)
xx15 - Cardiff (Carmarthen in peaks) (125mph)
xx18 - Newbury (110mph)
xx22 - Oxford (125mph) - Stops at Slough
xx25 - HeX (100mph)
xx30 - Bristol TM (RA BPW) (125mph)
xx33 - Bristol TM via Bath (125mph)
xx36 - Wesbury/Exeter/Paignton (125mph)
xx40 - HeX (100mph)
xx45 - Swansea (125mph)
xx48 - Cheltenham (125mph)
xx52 - Worcester/Gt Malvern/Hereford (125mph - Stops at Slough)
xx55 - Hex

With Peak extra Queue buster paths
xx12 - Oxford (first stop Twyford) - 110mph
xx27 - Reading/Didcot (first stop Maidenhead) - 110mph
xx42 - Swindon (first stop Twyford) - 110mph
xx57 - Reading/Didcot (first stop Maidenhead) - 110mph

Taking into account this is a trivia thread, even with ERTMS following at 2 minutes to Heathrow Airport Jn it's going to be tight with the peak extras. The following trains will get hammered as will the xx.18, xx.33, xx.36, xx.48, xx.03 and xx.06.
The other slight flaw with the crossing at Maidenhead is where are the trains in the other direction? And to be fair, getting 18 trains out in an hour just requires a minor burp to collapse.

It is the TOCs that will reject it, not necessarily us.

I understand that, and as put on Fridays, with the xx12 Friday peak extras.
The only issue I can see running proposed extras such as the planned 12 car 387s to Swindon, is finding somewhere to put them. There won't be any room on the Relief's until past Airpot Jn, and if running non stop on the fasts right the way though, surely you would need 125 mph capable stock, unless you jiggled it around completely during the peaks and start Bedwyns back from Reading and use that path for the Swindon peak queue busters (fast to Reading)
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Change of peak then

xx00 - Weston S M (RA BPW) (125mph)
xx03 - Bristol TM via Bath (125mph)
xx06 - Plymouth/Penzance via Desert (125mph)
xx09 - Swindon (peak extra)
xx11 - Hex (100mph)
xx15 - Cardiff (Carmarthen in peaks) (125mph)
xx18 - Newbury (110mph)
xx22 - Oxford (125mph) - Stops at Slough
xx25 - HeX (100mph)
xx29 - Bristol TM (RA BPW) (125mph)
xx32 - Bristol TM via Bath (125mph)
xx35 - Wesbury/Exeter/Paignton (125mph)
xx38 - Oxford (Peak Extra)
xx41 - HeX (100mph)
xx45 - Swansea (125mph)
xx48 - Cheltenham (125mph)
xx52 - Worcester/Gt Malvern/Hereford (125mph - Stops at Slough)
xx55 - Hex

Yes moving a few of the HeX forward by 1 minute will allow an 110mph path ML only to leave 2 minutes before. However, that only gives the xx15 4 minutes behind the HeX
Plus 2tph Oxford on the RL, but the RL timetable will change so much with crossrail that it is hardly worth predicting at this stage.

If there is a cough in the peak, then you cancel the xx18, xx09, xx38 to create breathing space. Or if still not enough room, have no peak extra's and change the x18 to run to Swindon in the Peak, and run Reading - Newbury in its place, connecting from the Swindon Train.

I believe the *exact* 15 minute depature interval of HEx from Paddington is a contractual right, as is the 15 minute Down direction journey time to CTA. A 14/16 interval would not be accepted.

If that is the case, peak then

xx00 - Weston S M (RA BPW) (125mph)

xx06 - Plymouth/Penzance via Desert (125mph)
xx10 - Hex (100mph)
xx15 - Cardiff (Carmarthen in peaks) (125mph)
xx18 - Swindon (110mph) - Connects with a Newbury train at Reading. Calls at Twyford
xx22 - Oxford (125mph) - Stops at Slough
xx25 - HeX (100mph)
xx29 - Bristol TM (RA BPW) (125mph)
xx32 - Bristol TM via Bath (125mph)
xx35 - Wesbury/Exeter/Paignton (125mph)
xx38 - Oxford (Peak Extra) Calls at Maidenhead

xx45 - Swansea (125mph)
xx48 - Cheltenham (125mph)
xx52 - Worcester/Gt Malvern/Hereford (125mph - Stops at Slough)

You will struggle to fit anything else in
