Might sound cheesy but my life ambition is to be happy. The small steps to getting there? A job that will keep me financially stable and give me a good pension (better get learning the rules then...), a man who appreciates me and who I can spend quality time with (I seem to end up with idiots), a nice house in a good location and good friends. Is that asking so much...?

I have hang ups about complete life ambitions because I have seen the people who are closest to me fail their original ambitions, due to events which weren't their fault.
Trying and failing is better than never having bothered in the first place, though no doubt you'll just pour scorn over that view because you can't be bothered to try and change anything around you or improve your lot.
it just means you'll be beating yourself up if you don't get what you want.
No it doesn't. If you do everything like that, then you're doing it wrong. Having aspirations is different from always really wanting something and then being constantly disappointed when you don't get it. It's about setting goals for yourself to try and achieve - it doesn't really matter if you do achieve them or not, the fact you've actually been trying and that you've been working towards things are what matters.
I believe that we all struggle in life to various extents, some are just luckier than others.
Ah, so you're one who just puts it down to luck, and presumably will then complain about not being lucky enough when you end up in a crap job you hate because you haven't bothered to work towards one you do want.
My life lies before me like a blank canvass, to be honest I don't think I'm going to be anything special, probably spend my life getting various crap jobs which I loathe until I drop.
If you continually think like that, then yes, that's most likely what'll happen.
The sooner other people my age realise that they're nothing special the better.
Knowing you're nothing special doesn't preclude having goals in life.
In the overall grand scheme of things, I'm pretty insignificant - I'm perfectly aware of this - but that doesn't mean I can't have dreams and aspirations. Why bother with anything if you've got nothing to work towards?
In the grand scheme of things you go to school, you work and then die.
You must be a bundle of joy to be around.
Setting yourself targets is just another way of giving yourself a false sense of purpose
Since you don't think you have any sense of purpose, what's stopping you just dropping dead now? According to your world view you're just heading into a life of misery and tedium, so why are you bothering to carry on?
and denying the emptiness of the average schmoe's existence.
Your existence is only as empty as you make it - most people manage to make something of their lives, though clearly you seem to think that this is beneath your scornful outlook on everyone else.
The only people who matter are the ones in charge.
So you're just going to moan about how crap everything is and not bother to do anything about it?

I know full well that I'm a pessimist, but I'm glad I don't think like you, because that's not pessimism - it's defeatism.

Look after those who matter to me, and having a damn good time while I'm here, work to live NEVER live to work ;)
Always 'endeavour' to do what you want today and don't keep putting things 'off' for 'next year' etc
