I am not sure if this has been discussed before. Today SWR is running extra trains to Kew Bridge again, and, same as last time a few weeks ago, they are taken from the Reading trains rerouting through Kew Bridge instead of Richmond. Example: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:Q57560/2024-08-31/detailed#allox_id=0

Basically there are long periods of time when there are no Reading trains calling at Richmond and Twickenham. However I see no notices whatsoever from SWR’s website, app, or journeycheck.com.

I suppose this is related to some events near Kew Bridge, which must be well planned beforehand. Am I being very oblivious to some very obvious notices, or has SWR done a terrible job in giving notices to passengers with this type of service changes?

Yes this has been happening for a couple of seasons now. The reading trains were also diverted for London Irish rugby games before they went bankrupt. After the game the trains from Waterloo are similarly diverted. The new stadium is right next to Kew bridge station. I think that these changes are timetabled so are not really changes and thus no need for announcements from SWR

Thanks, it’s good to know. Although when you say ‘timetabled’ I assume it means it’s in the railway’s internal timetable. An ordinary passenger, many of them familiar with / rely on the standard timetable issued every May and December, would have no idea what’s going on unless they happen to be Brentford fans, wouldn’t they?

Passengers in those timetables are told to confirm times before travel, especially at weekends.

Very few passengers use those online timetables for download these days, most passengers either using rail apps or google maps for journeys which would show the updated plan.

May be not, but plenty will have them in their heads…
