That's interesting, I can't seem to find any information regarding this online. Is it specific northern friend groups only?

Yes it applies to Friends of Stations groups across Northern. Each group is given a certain number of passes which can be shared between group members. You would need to be an active member of a group. Other "TOC"s may have similar schemes.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I was a bit disappointed, I only found it via an MSN article with the headline that read something like "Kids travel for £1 on state owned train companies", misleading to say the least...

Well a trip Euston to Crewe mid August for 1 adult and 1 child brings in the child fare as half the adult fare....

So nothing special there.

Was rather struck with the government of the day blowing their own trumpet on an official state website - felt a bit odd.

Or indeed Transport for Wales

Though in some cases things in the press release like:

kids fares have been slashed to as low as £1 by some operators following the first freeze to rail fares for 30 years

... already applies in Scotland under their Kids For A Quid offering and in Wales under-16s can travel for free with the TfW Family ticket.

And:

discounts come alongside the government’s Great British Summer Savings campaign offering free bus travel for kids this August

... already applies in Scotland owing to free bus passes for under-22s, and in Wales the bus fare for under-16s is £1.

So the press release doesn't make a whole lot of sense for ScotRail or TfW.

Shame the Caledonian Sleeper aren't doing a sale!

Targeted at existing users going by this error message on their booking site, "Sorry, this voucher doesn’t work for first-time bookings".

They also appear to charge a service fee of €1-2 so their discount is best utilised for bookings in the €60-67 range.

Getting uber/omio to refund an advance for a train retimed an hour earlier due to soil deficit on SWR was challenging today. Got there in the end buf only after I insisted the no refund on advance policy didnt apply when a train is no longer running...

Can't see this mentioned elsewhere:

Santander UK have recently introduced a Rewards Credit card which offers 3% cashback for the first year for travel (rail, bus and petrol) and restaurant spend plus a few other categories.
No foreign charges and 0.25% on other spending.

Might be useful if you're a big spender on travel.

I have a code, and it's definitely LNR-only services within the specified travel dates I'm trying to use it for, but it isn't working in the LNR app for me.

Edit: never mind, it works in the website if specifying LNR/WMR trains only. I did do that in the app as well but it didn't work.

and laughably North End tried to justify it by saying

Lumo provides supporters which much more affordable travel from Preston down to the capital, so arguably you can travel there and back, plus a hotel, for less than you might normally pay for your standard train ticket.

Fans quickly pointed out that hotels near Stratford when they play West Ham start at £175 for the Saturday night. An Off Peak return from Preston to Stratford is £125 with no railcard.

Not defending Lumo but most travelling fans, especially those who use rail will look elsewhere for cheaper accommodation and why would anyone book through to Stratford when it can be done for a far cheaper price than the one quoted.
