Yeah, we'd noticed the availability yesterday but assumed it was a mistake. It's unfortunate the products are reused in this way because it leads to incorrect messaging, but it's useful to know at least that it's not actually a mistake

Of course, it would be even more useful if Train Companies consistently advised retailers of promotions like this... ;)

A form to advise retailers (and other TOCs) of new/reused products, perhaps? You could call it something like a Product Advisory Form.

I think it's unlikely that a day ranger offer would coincide with both the half term holiday at many English schools and also the Ardwick Jn works unfortunately. Not to say that it's impossible but don't get your hopes up. Of course there's a period between the end of when most English state schools have their half term and the start of the week which has Good Friday (so this year 23/02 - 26/04) which tends to be ripe for promotions.

The ScotRail Club 50 £19 flat fare return offer is back, but with a new twist.

Outwards travel is valid from 28 Jan 2026 to 02 Apr 2026, returning up to a month later.

The new twist is that you can also buy a £19 ticket for a non-Club 50 member, but they must travel with you:

A Club 50 member may purchase one companion ticket per booking. The companion does not need to be 50 or over and does not need to be a Club 50 member, but must travel with the Club 50 member for both the outward and return legs of the journey.

Club 50 £19 Flat Fare Return Terms & Conditions

The £19 Club 50 Flat Fare Return offer is open to new and existing Club 50 members with an active membership.
  • A maximum of two tickets may be purchased per transaction.
  • Members may redeem the Flat Fare offer multiple times during the promotional period and can book as many separate trips as they wish.
  • Each booking may include only one companion.
  • All travellers must hold valid tickets. Only the Club 50 member is required to carry valid Club 50 membership and proof of age (50+) for validation.
  • Valid for Standard Class open return travel between any two stations in Scotland, on ScotRail services and on TransPennine Express services to/from Lockerbie and Reston only.
  • Outward travel is valid between 28 January and 2 April 2026.
  • Return travel must be completed within one month of the outward journey and no later than 2 May 2026.
  • Travel is permitted after 09:15 Monday to Friday, and at any time at weekends.
  • The Club 50 membership must be active for both the outward and return journeys.

  • First Class upgrades are not available.

It's interesting to see the age groups promotions to whom promotions are given. In Germany, DB's ICE Flatrate is returning; €44 for unlimited domestic intercity travel between 18:00 on Fridays and 14:00 on Sundays on most February and March weekends, but only for those aged 26 or younger.

(The presence of the D-Ticket probably makes the fact that it doesn't cover Sunday evenings less unpopular than it would be, unless planning on going from Munich to Rostock and back twice in a weekend).

Scotland of course has both ends of the age range covered for buses. Free travel for under 22s and over 59s.

I seem to recall that Northern used to do a small group discount for groups of three or more people travelling together.

Does anyone know if this offer is still available, and if so what type of ticket do you have to ask for? I can't find anything about it on the Northern website, so I'm guessing that it may have been withdrawn.

The Northern site does mention group travel for groups of 10+ people (and Duo tickets for two people travelling together, though these are only available for certain journeys), but not the small group discount for groups of 3+ people.

And Scotrail with the same scheme. In both cases only available for purchase from staffed sales points.

Also worth mentioning that LNER offer a Small Group Discount on Advance tickets too.

Indeed, I think that's what I was thinking of. Only certain TOCs participate in this offer, though, and Northern doesn't.

I seem to recall that Northern used to have its own scheme, but I presume it has either been discontinued or my memory is playing tricks and it never existed in the first place.

The terms and conditions of the family ticket are a bit vague.
I wonder if it would be valid for just two adults with no children.

(The West Yorkshire Family DaySaver explicitly states that is can be used by two adults alone which clears up any potential confusion.)

UPDATE: Have tried to book them. Not valid for two adults only!
