Think I've bought them all out (had to buy a few more at the regular price too), apologies to anyone else who wanted that train!

However the issue seems to affect quota for non-sale tickets too: RS offers a through regular advance single from Pwllheli to Birmingham New Street, but the forum's site insisted on a seemingly random split at Welshpool for nearly double the price; Would be grateful if someone could look into this.

I had a look this morning, but have been disappointed by how little availability there is.

Northern clearly show the “sale” fares, which are very cheap. Availability is another matter, with only a small number of services offering the sale rate fares.

Avanti seem to have more availability, with travel being restricted to off-peak services understandably. That said, the best sale fares I’ve found were not notably less than the usual AP tier availability.

Far from presenting a joined up approach, (which would have been a good bit of publicity for GB rail), we seem to have a fragmented one, with the TOC’s still firmly in charge.

That's my experience on SWR. Only one day I need to head to London during the sale and only train with sale fare was the 23:05 back. Looking at various options if I wait until super off peak and use my railcard (which I know not everyone has) cheapest good combination of advances is only about £1 less than the flexible fare!

I am sure I managed to get a few last time - though maybe weekends etc... are easier.

Rail Sale 1st Class Advance Singles on the Paddington-Hereford route are an absolute bargain - I paid £28 for a return trip from London to Worcester.

Hard pressed to think of a route that tops it for value.

Just booked a few days out with Rail Sale, with London-Edinburgh £52.00 rtn, London-Glasgow £84.00 rtn, and London-Sheffield £42.00 rtn. Which all especially London-Edinburgh being great deals. Doing Edinburgh twice and rest once. got some great days out planned and really looking forward to them.

I woke for a pee at 3 and grabbed a quick Stansted to Peterborough return for £7.50 each way, the wife was wondering what I was up to when I came back to bed with a smile on my face at that time of night!! Sadly no St Albans to Bedford or Cardiff to Merthyr half price day return deals…..yet?

Did anyone find any discounted flexible off peak tickets? The government press release made it sound like there would be some. £12 for a return to Norwich is great value but not keen on advances.

Looks like Southeastern has gone live too, but possibly quota hasn’t been added on some local trains. The fares are published but won’t book onto any train. For example London Bridge to High Brooms will give rail sale tickets but Barnehurst or Sidcup to High Brooms won’t.

This has been raised on X and acknowledged by Southeastern as an issue.

Just booked London-Crewe Rtn with LNW for £10.40 on 16th March, which ridiculously cheap, maybe one of the absolute steals of the Sale.

The 6 Advance tickets I've bought so far are 1 Rail Sale and 5 Railcard-discounted: 1/3 off seems to give a bigger discount than 50%! These are London departures, so possibly they're more restricted.

XC do AP for these prices on a regular basis so probably not in the rail sale but still really good value so it doesn't matter.

what dates ? I can't seem tto find any cheap tickets from london to edinburgh ?

LNER Singles from London to York (£19.90 each way) are a good start. Grand Central had a return fare for £14.

General Z0d, the dates booked Edinburgh, are Mon 25th Jan, and Mon 23rd Feb. Just looked up fares for London-Edinburgh 26th Jan, and there still the £55.00 fare available for sone trains, used the Greater Anglia site.

I've found an absolute bargain £10 RailSale ticket from Edinburgh to Blackpool North on the Avanti website travelling Feb 3rd on the following services...

1052 Edinburgh - Preston 1315 Avanti
1327 Preston - Blackpool North 1350 Northern

However the ticket description says Only valid on booked TransPennine Express services and required connecting services. The forum ticket site also offers the same ticket. So would this actually be valid and would the ticket say TPE only on it?

It is indeed valid - if an accredited retailer sells a ticket with an itinerary, then the railway must honour that (as stated in NRCoT).

It's happened because TPE have not set up the fare with any restrictions - it should have restriction TD like all other Advance tickets for route 00456 (TPE & Connections), but it doesn't have any restriction.

The National Rail page lists 90p Standard and £2.80 First XC-only singles between Derby and Nottingham. That means it's possible to make a First Class return trip for less than the price of a Nottingham PlusBus Day ticket!

Wish they had cheap fares to euston to arrive at 10-12pm. Return has the sales but not the onward. (Northampton to Euston)

I think CrossCountry forgot to withdrawl them when they removed 1st class from the 170s.
I belive you could technically go via and change at East Midlands Parkway.

are the 3000,000 approx Rail Sale tickets on target to all be sold out by end of sale period? If tickets remain un sold will the sale be considered still a success or failure as the tickets weren’t managed to be sold? Have noticed that there are still cheapest tier London-Edinburgh tickets available, which surprising as though they would have all been snapped up quickly.

There will always be some unpopular routes and unpopular times that will sell very little even if on sale.
