I've recently noticed on PayPal you can select one category per month to get 3% cashback on purchases, one of which is ground transport. This works for Uber and is in addition to their own cashback for ticket purchases (10% for Uber One or 5% otherwise). They offer up to £15 cashback per month.

To modify @Iskra's statement slightly, a 7 day Scottish All Line rover for 1-2 adults and 1-4 children for £50 is an absolute bargain! That could be as little as £8.33 per person for a whole week of unlimited travel in Scotland.

(Not strictly all line rover as it does only apply to ScotRail services, and by virtue also doesn't apply two the two ScotRail stations which aren't served by ScotRail, but it's practically the whole network!)

What's annoying is I only saw this announced the other day and I'm taking a bunch of scouts to a camp in this period and I could've bagged absolute bargain travel, but I've already booked my advance fares and their nearly-free bus travel. Even without their young Scot cards I would've saved money taking them on the train with me.

Bought a £12 Northern ranger on the newspaper promotion. Got to Lancaster and checked I could still use it on Avanti due to the closure of the Cumbrian coast line. National rail website now updated to remove the ticket acceptance on Avanti and TPE it would seem.

The platform manager said that he would speak to the Avanti train manager as due to impending arrival of storm Amy and delays already in the network, I should be okay to use the Northern ticket, travelled to Carlisle and no ticket checks made whilst onboard.

We managed to then return via Settle Carlisle line to Leeds and on to home at Newton Le Willows. 12 hours on the road and rails for £12 each.

Either the ticket acceptance has ended or it's up for "negotiation".

I've had a "5% statement credit when you spend any amount on a GBP transaction online at Avanti West Coast by 1/12/2025. Valid once per Card." pop-up on my Amex card offers. It may be worth checking if you need a discount. I'm still burning through my LNER vouchers bought with 10% credit.

Just looked at the Trainpal App and seen this offer for the Trainpal Card - 20% discount.

Is this genuine (has anyone else got this? ), or it is another Trainpal misleading 'offer'.

I don't want to hand over nearly £50, if the discount is actually the standard 3% which the Trainpal Card usually offers.

You're right about the discount. Unfortunately, as you have to pay for the card you need to stack that cost into the time taken to break even on buying the card, then to get an effective level of discount.

The presence of a Railcard simply means you have to buy a higher value of tickets (at their original, undiscounted price) to reach that £245 or £539 spend.

Given the cost of the card and the ROI period, I'm thinking that not many people will get to the 10% level, and as 5-10% is available by credit cards or cashback elsewhere, it's not such a stunning offer.

If you've got a regular commute and you're spending over £350/year on regular tickets, it will be worth it. I think that may be a small pool of people.

There doesn't seem to be any details of the restrictions for the 20% Trainpal Card.

The standard one is max 10 journeys a month, or 70 a year.

So I went to actually buy the 20%-off-for-a-year “TrainPal Card” this morning and was told it’s coming soon and to join the waiting list, despite the promotional banners suggesting it was available.

It says “TrainPal Card is coming soon. We’re working hard to bring you 20% off every train booking. Join our waiting list below and we’ll contact you as soon as TrainPal Card is available.”

Has anyone else had success actually buying this? I will obviously report back if/when it launches.
