It could be there's a misunderstanding over email communications at Avanti. If you don't opt in to receive marketing emails then they aren't allowing to send you marketing emails. However, if you're a customer they are allowed to send you mailings containing other important information, that could include information about disruption or a change to the Nectar scheme. It could be they sent a mailing to just those who are on their opted in list.
Oh that explains it.

I'm glad about this thread having been created. I wondered whether Avanti would continue to award Nectar points. Now I know for certain that they won't either.

33% off Digital Railcards for new Trainline customers - details on the MoneySavingExpert website.

The discount code is valid until 11.59pm on Monday 25 July or until 30,000 railcards are sold.

The Trainline are now offering 33% off Digital Railcards for everyone - i.e. both new and existing Trainline customers - again the details are on the MoneySavingExpert website.

£20.10 for a one-year Railcard, or £47 for a three year Railcard (if available).

The discount code is valid until 11.59pm on Wednesday 31 August or until 400,000 codes are claimed.

As before, the offer includes Network Railcards (for use in the 'greater' south east), which are rarely discounted.

Does this include disabled persons railcards?

Beware of buying a Family & Friends Railcard from Trainline - it can only be used on one Trainline account, so if you have a second adult cardholder, you will have to share your Trainline login with them.

Do Trainline sell Disabled Railcards?

Not at the moment - if you scroll down on their (GB) Railcards page you will find both the Disabled Persons Railcard and the Veterans Railcard mentioned, along with a note that states:

Not available to buy with Trainline. We are currently working on the ability to verify eligibility. In the meantime, to buy a Disabled Persons Railcard / Veterans Railcard, you can apply online here.

So they do at least note the existence of both Railcards, and link to RDG/ATOC's railcard.co.uk website which provides for the online purchase of both of them.

A fresh batch of 5% and 10% rebate offers on LNER has been added to American Express cardmember offers, if you have an Amex check your app and see what you've got.

There are also some TrainPal vouchers offering 1/3 off the price of a railcard (not to be confused with the 1/3 the railcard then entitles you off fares!)

I would put 10p on that big announcement from Northern will be another £1 seat sale, similar to last year.

Unless they pull a rabbit out of the bag and do another all day rover for £X offer without needing to buy local 'news' papers

The timing's right. They usually announce seat sales near the start of a school term to run for about a month or two, so they can carefully time them not to be of any use to families going on holiday. (Which doesn't seem like a good business strategy to me, but presumably they have done their sums).

Getting people on trains at quiet times is better business strategy than getting people on trains at busier times.

I have one of those vouchers that discounts the cost of the railcard, and my sister needs a new 16-25 railcard, but when she made an account, she could only get about £3 off the cost of the railcard. Is there any way I can transfer this code to my sister's account, or could she use a railcard that is on an account under my name but obviously the railcard would be under her name

Northern Flash Sale confirmed

Northern is set to offer £1 tickets as part of a first come, first serve flash sale this Autumn.

The train operator is selling over one million discounted tickets online and through the Northern app.

The £1 tickets will be available between Tuesday, September 6, and Thursday, October 20, while stocks last.

Cheap tickets will go on sale from 10am today (August 30) and must be booked seven days in advance of travel.

This cost of living crisis has really got out of hand as I'm sure in years gone by they were actually 10p! ;)

My hope is for the announcement of a major electrification programme and a corresponding order of new EMUs to replace the Sprinters. That would be "something big" ;)

Not going to happen though...
Cascaded EMUs would do, although it's the blimming wires that need to be there in the first place. :D
A £1 seat sale is a bloody brilliant idea in a cost of living crisis like this though.

I do like it when Northern have a ticket especially at the same time that I am in their area. Fingers-crossed for no strikes between the 22nd and 25th September.

Having trouble finding any at all. Wonder if a bot has mass booked for resale at higher price?
Will try a ticket office.

Sheffield-Blackpool North via Leeds return on the dates I wanted, total £2 - well pleased…

Would also like to do Sheffield-Scarborough but can’t find any £1 tickets on that flow. Might do Leeds-Carlisle instead as that has offer availability. Shame none of the Offers are showing in trainsplit yet.

It would appear that they are offering £1 tickets between Sheffield and Hull and between Hull and Scarborough but not as a through journey.

Also Northern have again done their usual trick of offering £1 tickets one way but full price on the other on some routes such as Sheffield - Manchester.
