Yes it's legitimate, I received exactly the same email earlier today into a very rarely used email account!

How odd. I have a few email addresses registered with EC but haven't received anything similar.

I believe it is just random as to who receives these offers, I have had this account for years and this is the first time I have had anything like this. I have heard over the years of other people receiving this email with no obvious reason other than lack of use of account (I believe I have seen it posted in this thread a while back).
Sadly it's an 'invitation only' type of offer as it requires the exact email address the offer was sent too (I have tried using a friends email account with no success). I have posted the link just in case though - hope it does work

So....there may be some merit in setting up a new EC account, use it for the next ticket to be bought, then reverting to the usual one. Then, in the future, EC may gaze upon the abandoned account favourably and send it offers?

That's a bit of a poorly managed idea. Someone who did a journey between Liverpool and Lincoln on that day who was disadvantaged misses out yet someone from Sheffield who rarely uses the train can claim a free pass.

I've just booked loads of tickets with the 50% off on East Coast. It appears to be only the 3 or 4 lowest tiers of advance prices for both East Coast standard and first advance that are 50% off. In some cases this has resulted in the odd situation of first being significantly cheaper than standard. Worth looking out for if you are eligible for this offer by virtue of having an "almost dormant" account.

Someone's left out the word 'discounted', which makes it sounds like you get free travel with one of these cards.

The last promotion run by the Daily Mail didn't make this clear - so loads of people turned up with one or two adults expecting to be able to use the railcard. It did state the conditions in microscopic print, but the promotion caused a lot of frustrations on both sides of the ticket counter.

This can be combined with a Railcard discount as well, bringing the cost of a Super Off-Peak Return down to £12.70, Off-Peak to £23.10, and Anytime to £43.90.

Someone on here mentioned last time when there was a Rainbow day at Guildford that the TVM's at Guildford sold Rainbow day tickets! So it should in theory be possible for the TVM at Wanborough to be set up to sell it too!
