Planning a journey from Penrith to Alnmouth, and one of the tickets offered (sending me via Edinburgh - one less change of train!) is a 'Special Day Single' at £52.90, 20p cheaper than the Anytime Single.

What's that about - can't see it in Avantix Traveller? The only ticket listed there is the Anytime Day Single at £20.80, which is presumably only valid via the Tyne Valley line, not Edinburgh?

The two options are:

SOR - Anytime Return
SDS - Anytime Day Single

If you are using a ticket booking site and you want to go via Edinburgh, book it online and get reservations, use the reservations and it is unlikely anyone will attempt to charge you. The reservations and travel itinerary provided with the ticket are evidence of a contract.

Edinburgh isn't an appropriate routeing point, and the only map to Newcastle permits the Tyne Valley Line only.

I did come across these 'special' day fares before, priced by EC and had a B1 restriction, just can't find them.
