I was thinking "why not let the 66 work all the way?", it didn't occur to me that the 66 was only sent there to pull the 67 back out of Swansea.

It was not supposed to happen the 67 was meant to run round. It was only discovered on the day this was not possible so the 66 came from Margam to turn the train.

What happened between Shrewsbury & Crewe with the line shut to Chester due to The Cefn, did the loco run around at Chester? or was it sent to Warrington via WCML and pax from Chester to Runcorn trained to Warrington?

Sent direct Crewe-Warrington Bank Quay.
This was good as whilst we were 55 late leaving Cardiff, we made good progress up the Marches and by going via Crewe we were actually back on time by Warrington and so we got our leg stretch brake at Preston.
