With a DB Sparpreis/Super Sparpreis ticket from say Rotterdam to Berlin with a connection into the Amsterdam-Berlin IC train, do you have to use the Dutch connecting train(s) shown on your itinerary or can you catch an earlier one for safety? Not quite clear from a trial booking on bahn.de.
Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure Dutch staff wouldn't care less as no reservations are applicable within The Netherlands. However I'd be interested in the answer from anyone with more knowledge than myself as I had wondered about exactly this.

Yes, just wondering whether to build in a buffer by specifying a longer connection anyway which you can do in the bahn.de booking process.
Last time I was in NL, there were a few cancellations and with the IC being only every 2 hours, a pain to miss it.

Zugbindung does not exist in the Netherlands, your connecting domestic trains will also not be in the list on your ticket where there is zugbindung. So you're free to take any domestic train in the right direction. Chances your ticket is checked are relatively low in the Randstad area anyway.

not sure about NL, the Swiss are nowadays rather strict and it's not because of reservation
You're not tied to any train in the Netherlands, except for the IC to Berlin (or ICE to Cologne). You can start as early as you want and break your journey as often as you want, before you catch the IC/ICE to Germany.
In Switzerland, it also used to be that way but that changed some years ago. You're also tied to Swiss long-distance trains mentioned on the ticket. However, I've seen recent (Super)Sparpreis tickets from/to Switzerland where the Swiss long-distance trains were not mentioned on the ticket. Please note that the timetable is not part of the ticket. The ticket will mention explicitly which trains you are tied to.
