Coming back from the Smoke this afternoon our Pendelino stopped at Nuneaton at about 15:20. I was amazed to see, steaming slowly through the station on the opposite line, heading south, ex-Southern Railway un-rebuilt 'Battle of Britain' class Bulleid Pacific 'Tangmere'.

She had only her Southern Railway green 'accomodation coach' attached, steam heated of course, as evidenced by the clouds of white vapour excaping into the cold afternoon air from the steam pipe on the rear of the coach.

Lovely sight!

It's doing a 'White Cliffs' tour from Victoria tomorrow. What on her was being repaired at Carnforth?

Where is it normally based?

I heard from a contact that she was being re tubed.

Southall is her normal base sometime stewarts lane it all depends on what tour she is working etc.

I understand 'Tangmere' failed at Victoria this morning with a firebox problem. Tour cancelled.

Very sad for all who'd booked as it's a cracking day for it. Maybe, with a loco that's just had such major surgery as a re-tube, the organisers should have hired-in a diesel as well 'just in case'?
