Hi all.
Just a quick question about signal passed at danger. If an RIO is appointed to a spad then what other parties attend and does the RIO arrange this ?

Generally it's a competency bolt on rather than a specific grade and as such is not really used for spads.

Indeed. In any particular incident there may be a number of people attending who can take the role.

If someone is appointed as RIO do they arrange what other parties who attend or do they simply attend the incident ?

I've never heard of anyone attending a SPAD. Generally, at least at my TOC, the Driver will take the unit ECS to its destination and then be met by the on call DM or pass to the depot. Even the most serious SPAD we had never had anyone 'attend'

I can only think of a couple of SPADs where a Driver refused to continue but even then they were met by another Driver and relieved.

Med screen guy is pretty quick to arrive at the depot

Depending on the severity there could be a need for a representative from the train operator commonly known as a TOLO (train operator liaison officer)
