How come the 377s have 2 (I think?) different types of interior?

The /1s (some) and /3s were specced by Connex, the rest by Southern if you mean seating colours etc

Ah Ok. And 1st class has a different layout (ie no sliding doors and 12 seats instead of 10) in some of them.

Do you not mean the high density seating in the centre carriages, and the lower density seating in the end carriages?

I've always wondered why that is.

When the 377s were first ordered by Connex, the plan was for them to have the same interior specifications as the 375s. However, when GoVia took over the franchise, they decided to change the internal colour scheme, as well as the seating layout. However they didn't change the units built under Connex, so that's why they're different.

Anyone noticed the flip down tables often don't 'flip' anymore. They are also incredibly squeaky!!

Seats are often torn and the armrest circular plastic covers hiding the mechanism have come off on a few seats.

There was an automatic announcement and scrolling information highlighting the CCTV today is that new? Perhaps to deter graffiti for one which appears to be on the rise on these units.

I think the grills alongside the seats which presumably cover the heating are a bit shabby because often rail tickets and chewing gum get wedged in there. You can also see a silver film (not sure what the purpose of this is) would look smarter if properly covered up...

I think it's insulation, unsure whether it's acoustic or electromagnetic.

As for the CCTV announcement, it has always been there, it just isn't programmed into the normal announcement pattern. The Driver or Conductor can choose to 'play' it, along with a load of other ones, if they so wish.

Yes, 377s and 375s are looking a bit well worn. The maintenance seems to have been less than generous by Southern and Southeastern with regards to the interiors.

Clean? Yes, mostly. But compared to the 423s which went before them (on SE anyway), the maintenance regime isnt great. But there was a comment on another thread saying some refurbs are now underway on the 375s..............?

The early 375s and 377s must be due for an overhaul. SWT are currently renewing the seat covers and flooring in its similarly aged 458s.

Its Govia, they are crap on all fronts.
(Only credit they get is for the Southern Daysave, was that a Connex idea originally?)

I was on a 377 today and the part by the toilet is very shabby and worn.

It's all little things building up really like torn seats, damaged tables, damaged seat rests...

Not to mention the ludicrously hard seats on Southern's 377/4s. I travelled on one from Southampton as far as Gatwick Airport last Saturday and the seats were even worse than SWT's Desiros!

 And I posted a while back on another thread how feeble the aircon has become over the past few years.

Have you been on a South Eastern 375 Lately then...Absolutely Awful!

As usual with said rancid Electrostars, Both toilets on the second set of an 8 Car service to Deal / Sandwich / Ramsgate where disabled...As usual on South Eastern Electrostar, the disabled toilet was er...disabled! and the other, small toilet was locked out of use too - and only one other working in the other set, out of two...

Interior was as shabby as anything, seats were in a state...Oh and as for the Air Con...That was completely non existent until Ashford...5 minutes before arrival! Cheers! So i spent a good hour and 10 minutes, sitting on a stuffy Electrostar, with an absolutely appalling ride quality! Ok, so rather unfortunately I was sat over the bogie…but really, ive never travelled on something with as bad a ride as whichever 375 that was!

As for the PA System – South West Trains Celia Drummond may not shut up sometimes, with her constant announcements of remembering tickets, lugguage, brain & cctv etc…But at least she and it goes through the list of stations that the service is stopping at…Something lacking from South Easterns Electrostars, which seemingly likes to either tell you which coach number your in, or tell you where the train is dividing! Yeah, that’s all very well…But I want to know what station is next, and how many stations I have left!!

Though, as much as I don’t rate South Eastern, I don’t rate the Electrostar either…South Eastern just strike me as an operator without a clue, whereas the Electrostar just feels cheap, cheap and cheap - and internally, in both Southerns & South Easterns, its really starting to show...

And nor does it seem Go Ahead Groups manger anymore…

No fan

Bombardier’s delivery has been poor and they source parts from Europe’

Quite frankly…Even Waterloo East to Ashford was a journey, enough to make me miss the quality of a Desiro!

Rant over!

Even the interior on some 377/5's is looking rather ropey already. I hope the 379s fare better, especially given the people dragging bags around, putting suitcases and rucksacks/backpacks on seats etc.

It's fair to say that some trains do get rather abused, but you surely expect it and factor it into the design when specifying the type of carpet you need, seat covers, arm rests, panel trims etc.

It's no good having the interior designed to last a year when refreshes are probably every 5-6 years. If a TOC finds itself having to refresh earlier as things were wearing out faster than expected, who funds that?

Yeah fittings in the Electrostars definately feel cheaper than a 450 or 444. There is lots of cheap looking plastic.

The ride quality does seem poorer than a desiro as well

They don't ride well in third rail land, but seem fairly decent from St Pancras to Bedford. Going to Brighton, or on a 377 on other routes (e.g. to Chichester) they bounce all over the place and feel terrible.

I presume that's down to the track, not the train?

Hi I live in Chichester. The electrostar ride today was awful with terriblr bounces which are particularly acute between Fishbourne and Chichester. There are these loud bangs and the train literally bounces up and down like a pacer!

The train also vibrates over track which can be felt on the floor and it is so uncomfortable you can feel every bump in the track as well as the corridor connections and other fittings making lots of noise.

Sometimes sounds like there's something loose underneath the train.

They do vary probably as to where you sit and whether they have recieved maintenance? Terrible ride on the whole though! I do think it could be down to the track and all the crossings too. I remember the mk1s were bumpy too

The bouncing up and down like a pacer is how the class 458 trains operate on the Waterloo - Reading line, I much prefer when the Desiro's appear from time to time.

Having said that I have experienced on a number of occasions the ride of the Class 377 and found it quite good, it is certainly better than the ride of a Class 458 which at time I find back breaking.

I don't think that the 377's bounce that much (they seem to bounce more over jointed track than the Desiro's do though), but the Desiro's are still much smoother!

Also, I haven't noticed the 377's to be loud either, I have fallen asleep plenty more times on a 377 than a 444, although the 444's are comfier.
