Southern - zone 5 cap?

Apologies if this is a daft question but I need to get to Carshalton from Victoria tomorrow, I can get a priv return for £3.45 but I'll also be on the tube later (zones 1&2) in the day using contactless.

If contactless valid to Carshalton, am I better off using that as it will count towards the daily cap?

No, you'd be worse off using contactless as the cap is £13.90 compared to the zone 1-2 cap of £8.10.
