Southern trainee train driver job on their website

If you answered "yes" to the question of being unsuccessful in any part of the recruitment process then you shouldn't have. I'm almost certain that means being unsuccessful with regards to the assessment center and not online application.

So what do you think this part "Have you previously applied for a Drivers role in the past 6 months and been unsuccessful at any stage of the recruitment process? " means then.........................apart from at any stage ! :roll:

Just a thought here, do Southern actually have the resources to train and put out on the mainline 200 trainee drivers over the next say, 12 months?

Just had rejection letter due to my home address being outside an hour of their routes. Confused as the application asked what my intentions would be if this was the case and obviously I said relocate, but I've still been rejected?
I didn't know you wasn't allowed to apply of you didn't have an address within the catchment area?!? Very annoyed!

Ditto.

I can only assume they were hedging their bets that no one who actually lived on the route wanted to work for them given all the strikes at the time.

Then when they were inundated with applications they could be picky and change the criteria to within an hour.

Never mind, on the positive side, at least they got back to us pretty quickly.

Not really, it's pretty standard practice. I live about an hour from most of the South London vacancies that come up and accept that I won't be able to apply for a lot them. This often means a long, frustrating wait for vacancies within commutable distance to arise.

What's annoying is the application asked if you don't live within an hour what are your intentions?
Why ask the question?
I've emailed back so await their answer.
I work in the airline industry and we have many pilots who don't live within a commutable distance to Heathrow at time of application but do relocate on any job offer.

Recruitments response was that they can't accept any future address for the job. It has to be an address within 30 mins of a depot at time of applying.
I suggested actually stating that on the job description and not asking the question about relocation to save a lot of confusion/calls/time.
She said the job will be opening again in the spring and I'm welcome to apply with a London southern address. wish i knew this at the time as this would of easily been achievable as I could of put the address where I was going to relocate to.
Lesson learnt I suppose

Has the job reference has changed from GTR1326 to GTR1359 ?

I'll obviously be searching online for more info about this assessment, but if anyone has been recently, is it everything in one day ? Including MMI and DMI ?

Due to the home postcode which you supplied on your application, we believe you may be based nearer*to one of our Thameslink routes. As such, we would like to consider your application for Thameslink, rather than Southern routes. *

As safety is our paramount concern for train drivers, the application process is very thorough and detailed.* The first stage of the*process is the screening of all applications received.* The competition is strong at this stage, and we consider all parts of your application before inviting successful applicants to assessment. Due to the huge volume of applicants, we hope to be able to get back to you regarding this stage as soon as possible, but this may take several months. We appreciate your patience at this stage.

If successful at the screening stage, we will invite you to an assessment day at Go Ahead House in East Croydon where you will be asked to sit a series of relevant assessments.*

Once you have passed the assessment stage, you sit two very different interviews; one with the driver depot managers, and one with our psychometric assessors. The final stage of the process is a medical examination, ensuring that you’re fit and well to start your training.

Got mine next week. Working through the big booklet they sent. Just wondering if those are the only tests you do? Did you do any others ?

Did they say how long between this assessment and MMI/DMI ?

How long did the whole thing take?

Grateful for any info. Anybody else going next week ?

Hi, you only have to give 2-3 lines as a basic outline of your answer to the question. Just enough info to give the interviewer an Idea of the situation.
