Is there anyway to obtain one, just for purchasing normal returns on them? I.e not season tickets, if not then what's the cheapest season ticket that can be bought for the smartcard? :)

If yours arrives without a plastic wallet, you can email them to remind them that their FAQ says it should come with one.

Though it's not really worth the bother unless you ask for two or three of them at once (and get them), in order to have spares. Mine fell apart after about a week's worth of light use. It was one of the special three-panel white key wallets.

That'll be why they sent me two then!

Of course, the need for separate wallets is the major downside of NFC technology, since cards kept together confuse the readers.
