I know Southern have loads of sidings and depots but are they ever planning to use the ones at Tattenham Corner, or the one opposite the bay platform at West Croydon?

There seem to be a fair few laying about not being used but others are being done up for use. Oh the ones over to the far left when leaving Norwood Junction in the down direction too. I still find it quite funny there is a Stop board still stuck out in the middle of the long grass with absolutely no purpose to it. <D

I suppose with the introduction of new stock and some new depots in recent years on the former southern region some of the night stock stabling locations have changed with some now looking disused for a number of years now

Two more electrified sidings have reopened N of Horsham station. These look as though they were former diesel fueling points. A 377/6 sitting in one this morning.

The last time I was at Tattenham Corner (admittedly a number of months ago, actually) I noted that one of the sidings (if not more?) had a few young trees growing through the middle of it. Is this still the case?

They've been reinstated specifically for the stabling of the 377/6s. There should be two sets sat there all this week ready for the timetable change.

The Tattenham Corner sidings are being re-instated for use as a stabling facility. As you might have guessed, there is a NIMBY response to it as well!

http://www.epsomguardian.co.uk/news..._birches_beside_railway_line_come_under_fire/

Plans to cut down dozens of silver birches beside a railway line have come under fire from an angry resident.

Network Rail informed residents last week that it will start clearing vegetation and trees at Tattenham Corner on Monday in order to extend the sidings by 440 metres.

The clearance work will allow Southern Rail to park four trains in the extended sidings at the station.

If they are planning to stable trains there overnight I would hope they have a high level of security planned for these sidings; they might need a large quantity of paint remover otherwise!

Not sure if it is connected but there is a set of points as you come out of Platform 6 which go over to the left and then the track disappears into grass. There is a dummy in there and a Stop Board sticking out of the grass.

There is a Network Change out - (which has to be approved of course) - basically the clutch of area around the old Chipmans Sidings (I think) - towards the Dorking line. Horsham will be a veritable shunter's paradise on nights - though of course - the availability of local berthed stock guarantees a good early morning and late evening service !. I am sure NR has a plan for "ancilliary" service stock ...
