HI,

I have recently inherited two albums of black & white photographs mostly from the 1950's which I am slowly scanning

On the reverse of one of them is this writing, "Victoria (Eastern Section) new standard ???? Lane Dyke? swing arm erected on dock to serve No 1 platform"

Can anybody decipher the name ???? Lane name at all..?

agree with platform, possibly 'long' rather than lane/line?

That would make the whole phrase 'new standard platform long type swing arm'. Plenty of other possibilities though.

My eyes are also reading the word as platform.

I think it is ".... platform level...." presumably to distinguish from the more usual ground-mounted column?

Agree that ‘level’ is probably more likely than ‘line’.

Mind you, if you compare that word with "serve" on the bottom line minus its "r", aren't they nearly the same?

Thanks guys, I've followed tis group for years but never joined or posted so your replies are appreciated. I totally agree with the conclusions and just goes to show I was over reading it, i have some cleaning and repair work to do with image but will post it when completed.
