This probably fits into an existing thread but couldn't find a relevant one\0
Yesterday on my way to Herne Hill I changed at Clapham Junction for the next train to Victoria. This turned out to be 1Y27 and was a 12 coach Gatwick Express. It was jammed solid, many with luggage and might well have come from Gatwick. But no, it only came from East Croydon! Is getting from Gatwick to London these days so convoluted that one has to change on the way? And presumably with the Gatwick Express not running at the moment the trains are being used for all and sundry.

There was quite a long thread a few weeks back, (now closed), about the recent situation affecting Southern Victoria services:
But although that started out on the basis of the changes ending after the engineering work, they were basically rolled forwards…

A silly question perhaps as I'm not local but.....how do you get from London to Brighton?

Southern services from London Victoria - Brighton or Thameslink from London St Pancras, Farringdon, City Thameslink, Blackfriars and London Bridge.

Only Thameslink services running to London on weekdays your OK at weekends but watch out as lots of engineering work coming up for Copyhold Jcn renewal.

Southern are suggesting more services returning to Vic from 28th Feb but which routes hasn't been updated yet.

So change at East Croydon or go to London Bridge in the first place. London Bridge is the station with the most frequent service to Brighton in normal times in any case.

Apologies, I didn't realise the issues are still occuring around the Southern area!

Thanks for the comments. I was aware of the Southern reductions but it is not until you actually want to make a journey that you realise how strange they are. Last week I needed to get to Crystal Palace and found the Southern trains for there only started from Balham so it was far quicker to go with the tube to pick up Overground at Canada Wharf. The number of people on the 12 coach 'Gatwick Express' yesterday shows it is not lack of demand that is the issue and it is probably not crew shortage either. Hopefully the restoration of some services in a couple of weeks will change that.
