Southern - Overtime ban

Here I am in Horsham where it seems that 50% of most trains are cancelled (including Thameslink) and the same seems to apply in most places in Southern land. Are they really that short of staff that an overtime and rest day working ban can have such an extreme effect. No wonder a neighbour to the house I am staying in now works 4 days a week at home instead of 3!
Seriously, as a retired railwayman of many years I am very upset to see the way the railway is destroying itself.

Was at Sutton earlier and observed the 1546 and 1549 Thameslink trains being cancelled. GTR really have an issue

It's the government/DfT that are destroying the railway, they're the ones in control.

Yes but doesn't stop GTR maximising utilisation of resources they have rather than just opting for an across the board 50% cut.
